Fabio's POV
Enough.
I've spent enough time pretending that things were going to be okay, when in reality, it was destroying everything I have. I blame myself for allowing the situation to develop into something that was unrepairable, I might have just fucked things up.
I felt enraged and numb simultaneously, my mind didn't want to comprehend this revelation. I've spent years avoiding him but today, his problem became mine for the first time. After all these years of nothing from him, suddenly, he returned but then, he didn't.
It was the reason why it's unfortunate to say that he is my father. Throughout my childhood, I yearned for him and now that he was back, I couldn't give a fuck about him.
People enter our lives for a reason and then leave when it's no longer necessary for them to stay. That's what I learnt as I taught myself the mafia perspective of everything. That's what mamma taught me, and that's what Constantino showed me. Each time I experienced this, I'd deal with the consequences in a matter of hours, simply by an assassination but today was different.
Today, I was going to end this once and for all.
"Fabio, I need a response."
I release a deep breath as I snap back to reality, his deep and troubled voice penetrated through my ear, reminding me of the severity of the situation we were in right now. I lift my head up and glance at Dante who stood in front of me. Dante didn't seem to acknowledge the fact that I've been up half of the night, trying to figure something that I couldn't work out on my own. When I glance at him in silence for a moment, I was able to read him.
"For?"
Dante blinks at me, concern etched into his features. He inhales a breath and scoffs, immediately severing our eye contact. It was then that I felt the cramp in my knee and my foot and I realised how long I've been sitting in one position, that I haven't given myself the stretch I needed.
"You were not listening to me." He states, sauntering to me. I glance at the time and it read half past three in the morning. I blink, sleep was heavy on my eyes. "Take a look at this."
Dante begins to get technical on the computer that I was sitting in front of all night. He clicks on a few things at a time and I just watch him in silence, sitting behind him. But, a second later, I leap away from the chair and lean forward, staring at the screen in disbelief because what Dante seemed to show me definitely woke me up. It was a picture of a man, a man I recognised.
"Constantino and I discussed the time he met Mateo for the first time, and that Mateo introduced him to a friend of his he claimed to do business with. The business was an educational facility that Mateo and his friend wanted to building. They collaborated with Constantino at one of his galas many years ago, but what they really did was steal thousands from Constantino to start something that had nothing to do with their school. It turns out Mateo and his friend stole from Constantino to begin a drug cartel, and the school was just a facade to fool people. They managed to built their ring and practically fucked off but it still doesn't make sense why he wants to get in touch with us, right now. The Lombardi's have no association with Mateo's friend, other than the fact that he stole from us."
"That's Giorgio Parisi." I mumble, blinking at the bright screen as his picture was plastered all over the screen. Mom's words all rushed back to me her story began to make sense because it matched everything Dante was narrating. Dante watched me skeptically and frowns, confusion spread across his face. "He's the drug lord."
I found it difficult to accept the fact that my father is a drug lord. Out of everything I imagined him to be, I didn't expect this. Madre did inform me that he was a bad man but not as bad as I thought he would be. Considering the fact that he tried to kill me once should have been enough to know that he was a bad man but this was beyond what I expected. He was a drug lord, something us mafias despise.
