Fabio's POV

Sometimes, it's easy to pretend that something is not wrong.

We live a life that we can never make predictions because each day comes with a different reality. But mine, mine was a repeated cycle.

Why?

I was not complaining though, I liked the mafia lifestyle, it's something I grew up around. My whole childhood was based on the mafia, and now that I was an adult, I'm running it besides my brothers. Ah brothers, my family and my world but sometimes, I'm tempted to wrap my hands around their necks.

"Fabio!" I blink obliviously to the ground as soon as a loud voice penetrated my ear, when I glance up, I find Dante gazing at me. I sit up and briefly sweep my gaze across the room, Tony and the others were preparing to leave so I do too but when I reached Dante, he stopped me. "May I have a word with you?"

"."

We wait until the room was vacant and for some reason, I felt an intense tension simmer in the air between us, but perhaps it was because I felt nervous from Dante's judgemental glare. I would glance at him and then look away, itching away the irritation that sat at the tip of my nose. Once the room was clear, Dante reclined back on his chair and watched me, holding a steady gaze.

"Would you like to know what happened to Mario?"

I threw him a glance and slowly feel my brows knitting together as confusion took me, Dante watched me like as if he was challenging me but his eyes were cold, his face was expressionless and his tone was hollow.

"I got it handled. Leo is handling the job." I muse but speaking to Dante only made a realisation dawn on me. "He isn't dead is he?" I mumble, a small spite of rage swirls around me.

"No. No he is not. I asked Leo to step back and let me handle him." He reveals, I question him with my glare. "Why would he need to die?" He fires back, his brows also knitted into a furrow but it was much deeper than mine. Suddenly, I felt like I was being interrogated.

"I don't understand what you're trying to do here." I grumble under my breath. I stand straight and walk away from him, nearing the door. "But when you learn how to speak clearly, call me back."

"Torna qui prima che ti sparo via l'altro ginocchio!"

I freeze in front of the door. My teeth clenched together as I close my eyes and curse to myself. This was not going to go well, Mario must've opened his mouth and now, Dante knows everything.

I turn around and face him, this time Dante seemed agitated. His eyes zeroed on me, anger fuels him and targets me. His fists were wrapped together and his elbows were resting on the table. He glares at me, waiting for me to return and so I do. I walk back to the desk and sit on the chair in front of him, reclining back. Silence follows and it was uncomfortable and unbearable, I just wanted to get the fuck out of here.

"When you're the Mafia, you learn that your crucial enemy is those who lie. Liars get the most unfortunate fate, isn't that right fratello?"

"Hm," I grunt, inclining my head to agree with him. "."

"When your family is the Mafia, it's impossible to keep secrets from each other. If that happens, there no such thing as family."

"Dante, Stop-"

"I had a very interesting catch up with Mario before I released him to Julian to decide his fate." He says, cutting me off. I glance at him and freeze on the chair. Dante looks away and shakes his head while he reclined back in the chair and placed his finger on his chin. "Would you like me to tell you what he said or would you like to tell me yourself?"
