3. Invisible Until Now

"What?" I questioned as I suddenly felt a big arm come around my shoulder.

I felt a wave of shock and fear come over me. I fought off the urge to scream until I could identify who was grabbing me.

"CORY!" I shouted as I realized who it was.

What is going on?!

He didn't even jump. He just smirked, letting his left dimple expose itself. A blush worked its way to my face as I realized my mouth was open and I was staring right at his lips. They were slightly redder than my own, more full. My head was tiled nearly all the way back as he began to look down at me with his glacier-like blue eyes that wrapped me in warmth somehow. Maybe it was just his arm?

"Chill out, Mills. I'm just walking with you." I hate being called 'Mills', but he seemed to be relaxed. Like the whole school wasn't staring at us right now. He leaned down towards me and my heart began to race faster and faster. "Close your mouth, you'll catch flies," he whispers. "And you should really stop staring, I know I'm hot." His cocky attitude comes out with a quick wink

I turn to see Taylor frozen in her spot. I begin to worry when her blonde, crunchy curls began to fly everywhere. She cared so much about her hair, it's unlike her to not be pushing it back into place. Her mouth still agape, and I don't think she has blinked since I saw her out here.

"Taylor? You okay?" I call out to her.

"Oh-uh," She sputters out. "Wher-where have you been?" She snapped out of the trance and was clearly annoyed with me.

Yep, she'll kill me before my coach can, easy.

"I'll explain in the car," I harshly state.

"You freaking better!" She teases winking and opening the door to my small white car.

I turned to look at Cory to see him still smirking. I almost forgot about his arm pulling so close to him. We were connected at the hip, his arm keeping me there. I am much smaller than him, 8 inches to be exact, so I knew trying to just shrug him off was not an option.

"Cory, I-I have to go," I basically whispered.

He looked down at me, now more serious. "What was that, short stack?" He questioned. I guess he thought I had mentioned something important.

I felt his arm go lighter and took my chance.

I grabbed his hand and swung it off me. I took a step back and turned to face him. Unfortunately, he caught on to what I was doing and held onto my small hand. His skin looked much tanner than mine. It's the beginning of spring, but his bronze skin somehow stayed through the fall and winter. It really suited his dirty blond hair and ocean-like eyes.

"I said, I have to go," I stated, getting slightly aggravated. "We haven't spoken since we were kids".

Is that freaking stutter finally gone??

He looked a little hurt. His eyes squinted for a second as he looked up to the partly cloudy sky. It was probably going to rain here soon.

"Well, I wanted to see what you're like nowadays. I saw you with Chase" he almost whispered the last part. "I just wanted to know what's up"

"What's it to you?" I retorted back at him. We hadn't had a talk like this since seventh grade and we were put together in a group project with Steve.

"Well, I saw you guys walking together after school today. What's that about?"

"Why don't you ask him yourself, then let me know". I yanked my hand out of his tight grip to turn and walk to my car. It would have been a great exit, except I forgot I dropped my skates behind me.

I stumbled over them nearly breaking my face on the trunk of my car. Cory's hand from behind me, that was slightly smaller than Steve's, wrapped around the cut on my arm. I slapped my hand on the trunk to keep my balance. "OW!"

"Wha-what?" Cory asked, obviously shocked as he quickly let go of my arm.

I lifted my hand off the trunk and turned towards him. "Walking with Steve? I was going to the nurses' office for this cut." I was getting really annoyed now. The blood was now spreading on the white wrap Mr. Tellman had put on the cut. "Look, I really have to go," I muttered realizing I had been nothing but rude to Cory. He hasn't done anything wrong, really,  he is just talking to me.

"Okay." He looked a little green now. Did blood gross him out or something?

Whatever, Taylor is gonna kill me. I picked up my skates and shoved them in the back seat of the car. "Hey, Taylor" I greet her kindly as I hop in the driver's seat.

"You are so dead." She was more than pissed.
