2. I Knew You Were Trouble, But I Still Needed Help

Who does this person think they are? Who takes out someone's headphones?

"Um, Excuse me? Did I say something wrong?" The deep voice seemes shocked.

Did I say that out loud?!  My nerves kick into overdrive as I reach up slightly behind my back and begin to twist my hair around my fingers. "Uh, wha-what? Sor-Sorry," I manage to get out with a raspy voice. My mouth is suddenly very dry. Stephen Chase, in all his toned glory, is standing right in front of me. His intense green eyes pour into my hazel ones. My cheeks flush as I realize I have no idea what he just asked.

"Your bag? Do you need some help?"  He answers my thoughts. He sounds like he is trying to be helpful, but I am about to get a whole crowd around me. The popular girls will be coming out of the bathroom with refreshed, caked-on makeup for him and Cory any second.

Where did Cory Go? He was just here next to me two minutes ago.

"Uh-um, no, th-thanks. I go-got it"Damnit! This stupid stutter! I turn, hop to grab the navy bag. As fate would have it, the bag was unzipped, allowing my unguarded blades to come at me. I never liked to keep guards on my skates. As soon as the bag begins to fall off the locker, a skate comes right at me. The razor-sharp toe-pic falls down and leaves a rather large gash on my forearm.

"OW!" I practically screamed so the people in Australia could hear. All heads snapped in my direction as I slapped the cut on my arm, blood already dripping down toward my wrist. "Just grab it and help me to the nurse," I hissed to Steve in a hushed, sharp tone. He looks at me with shock and confusion. I hope he isn't afraid of the blood. Of course he isn't, He boxes. Steve nodes and grabs the large duffle bag that looks significantly smaller on his shoulder.

The smell of stale candy and cleaning supplies fill the small, white room. I sit on the small cot that is covered in a thin paper and stare at the brown speckled ground.

"You need to be more careful getting this stuff down," The school nurse, Mr. Tellman, utters as he wraps a white bandage around my small arm.

"I-I'll be fine. It wasn't like it wa-was a really deep cut an-anyways" I retorted, still stumbling over my words. I peer up at him. His brown, almost black, eyes match his short hair. His eyes really look too small for his face, even with his thick glasses. He seems young, almost not old enough for this job.

"Still, keep ice on your arm. You need to keep it wrapped and clean," He stats in a more authoritative voice. "Who knows where those things have been," he whispers under his breath.

"Excuse me?" anger dripping from my words.

"Hey, Do you need any Ibuprofen or something?" Steve interjected. I had almost forgotten he was in the room. He must have noticed the red anger working its way to my face. I was the smallest in the room but I can promise I had the biggest temper.

"I'm fine" I grunt. Ibuprofen wouldn't be bad right now, but I want nothing to the scum that says that about my skates. Jeez, that was harsh. Is shark week coming?

"Uh- okay," Steve looked more confused now than before. He could probably see I was hurting, but I wasn't gonna ask for anything. "Ya know, Mr. T., could I get some Advil? My head really hurts."

Mr. T.?

"Whatever," Mr. Tellman responds annoyed, as he writes something down and hands him the pill bottle.

"Well, I'm going now," I feel awkward. I had no more business there and my coach was gonna kill me if I was late today if Taylor didn't get to it first.

Taylor!! I whip out my phone to see eight texts and two voicemails. Was I that late?! "I'm late," I muttered as I walked out the door and sprinted to where I parked this morning.

"Mills!" A now more familiar voice echoed in the now empty hallway.

Steve.

I slowed to a walk and turned around slowly. He was closer than I expected and his sent surrounded me. It was a cool, ocean-like smell with a hint of mint. His dark hair fell over his burning green eyes as he looked down at me. I came back to reality and I realized I was now surrounded by people. The blood rushed to my face and I took a step back from him.

"Here," He muttered as he pushed his tan hand toward me. He was not a huge guy, but rather a mass of pure muscle. I didn't notice how big his hands really were in comparison to mine until he dropped 2 small Advils into them.

I nodded a thank you and turned around to walk to my car.

Taylor is gonna kill me.

I unlocked the car as she glared at me.

FLINK

She doesn't get in. Instead, her pink-glossed lips drop open and her ice-like blue eyes with long black lashes seem to grow wider.

"What?" I questioned as I suddenly felt a big, heavy arm come around my shoulder.
