14. Everything I Have to Live Without
~~~
To my complete and utter shock, Steve didn't do so much as look at me for the rest of the week.
Instead, he and Cate became official.
On Tuesday, I saw her wrap her red painted fingernails around his waist at Cory's locker. He shuddered slightly, but didn't shake her off.
On Wednesday, she laced her fingers through his and walked out to his car. The car that he so graciously parks next to mine daily.
On Thursday, He drove her to and from school.
On Friday, as a total knockout to my heart, they kissed. This hurt me more than the last time they kissed for solely one reason: it was in public. Seeing them in the gym knocked the wind out of me. But, in the hallway, it was like it was strictly for me to see.
It didn't help that they continued their kissing adventure in Steve's car.
Honestly, I should sue them because I almost got in an accident trying to get out of there faster.
"Lec, are you paying attention to me?" Taylor snaps me out of my internal review of the week. She came here right after school today because, well, we are best friends.
"Huh? Oh, sorry, I wasn't," I reply honestly.
"Ugh, okay, tell me what you're thinking about so intently then," Taylor says frustratedly. She's lying on my bed with her feet by my pillow (ugh, I'll change the pillowcase later) and her head hanging upside down off the other edge of the bed.
"Don't judge me."
"When have I ever?"
"Should I get out the list?"
"Shut up, what is it?" She lifts her head and leans back on her elbows. "Unless it's a who?" She wiggles her eyebrows.
Silence fills the room.
"It is O-M-G," She squeals
"Shut up!" I throw a pillow at her.
Deflecting the pillow, Taylor yells, "TELL ME WHO IT IS!"
"You already know, don't make me say it," I complain.
"The Bastard?"
"Duh, did I tell you about what happened in the parking lot the morning of the 'incident'?"
"Monday? Like, of this past week? No! Lec!!" Taylor slaps my arm.
"Ow!! Chill out, Taylor!"
"Tell. Me."
"Okay, okay," I begin explaining how I ran into him the previous Monday and the events following. It takes me almost an hour to describe exactly what happened because she keeps interrupting me. "And then, I send the text. I think he is the unknown number! His phone buzzed," I finish.
"Look, Lec, I don't want to rain on your parade even more, but he is really popular," Taylor sighs.
"So?"
"And he was just with Cory," another sigh.
"Your point?"
"It could be anyone that texted him. I think it might have just been a coincidence."
"But I haven't gotten a message since I yelled at him" I reason.
"Look, I know he kissed you. I know you liked it, an-"
