8. Come in with Drew
~~
"I really need to talk to you," a deep voice said in a very serious tone.
My heart began to pound in my chest.
"Can you come outside?" he questioned anxiously.
"Um- I- uh- Okay" I stuttered, completely lost for words as I stepped out of the door frame.
Steve's tall stature looked tense from the shoulders down. I stared at the back his head as his dark brown hair shifted a little in the wind. He turned to look at me with his blazing green eyes. His eyebrows were raised as he turned back around, looking towards the empty street. He hopped down the two concrete stairs that connect to the porch as I closed the door behind me. His white two-door Mustang with blue racing stripes caught my eye. He had parked in the driveway right behind Taylor's hand-me-down silver range rover. Trust me, that sounds fancier than it really is.
Her car has door dings everywhere and looks rusted at the corners of the doors. It was her older brother, Jackson, who had the car first. Needless to say, he was not the greatest
What is going on?
I turned to look at him and found his arms crossed as he stared right back at me.
"Can I help you with something?" Gee Lec, why don't you yell at him now. That will make him feel more comfortable I thought sarcastically. I sounded harsh, despite my nervousness. I reached up to play with my hair a little, distracting my hands.
"I wanted to talk to you about what happened the other day. I felt bad and I wan-"
"How did you find my house?" I interrupted helplessly. I hadn't thought about it until just then and it slipped out.
Still fiddling with my hair, I walked to the edge of the porch where Steve was. We were eye to eye now that he was standing steps below me.
Bold, Lec. Very Bold. Calm the hell down.
"I looked at my dad's stuff" He nearly whispered.
"How did you even get that?" I questioned more under my breath that to them. We were so close he heard me.
"I don't know. But I really am sorry for barging in. If I had known it was someone from Evergreen I would have waited" His eyes fell to the ground.
My heart continued to hammer as I searched for the words. "Um, it's fine. Really" I reached for his shoulder and placed my hand on it softly. His deltoids were huge compared to my hand.
His eyes shot up and he stepped up one step. He was slightly taller than me again. The green had softened along with his shoulder. I pulled my hand away as soon as I realized that it was still there. My hand began to tingle as I let it drop to my side.
Steve reached up to push one of my rebel hairs behind my ear, making my poor heart nearly shoot out of my chest. My hands began to shake uncontrollably.
"Look, I don't know why exactly I came but I just, uh" He pauses. "Nevermind" Steve sighs and begins to turn around.
My body takes a few seconds to react. "Wa-wait" I call out, too soft for anyone else to really hear. I took one step forward and realize that I missed the step. "Woah!" I nearly yell, causing Steve to turn around.
Steve arms quickly reach out to catch my shoulders. He steady's me at the bottom of the two steps.
"I am so sorry," I say and my cheeks begin to flush. God, Lec, can you at least try to be a little less clumsy?!
Steve chuckles a bit, allowing his left dimple to make an appearance in a smirk. "Geez, Mills, I heard you were clumsy but damn!" He chuckles a bit more. I avert my eyes as soon as his green ones meet mine.
My heart rate has not faltered. My heart continually pounds quickly against my sternum. "Sorry" I almost whisper. I look down at the ground and find my hands are still engulfed in Steves. I try to slide my hands out, but it just draws Steve closer.
I have tilt my head back to look at him with my lips slightly parted and find that he was still looking at me. Steve begins to lean down towards me until our lips were inches, no, mere centimetres apart.
"HONK HONK" A royal blue Jeep scowled as it pulled into my driveway next to Steve's car. This causing Steve and I to jump apart.
Drew. His shaggy blonde hair flew over his grey eyes as he stood up. A big, toothy grin. "Where ya been, Daisy?" he yelled from the open top of his jeep where he was standing on the driver's side seat.
"Could ask you the same, Goofy" I call back out to him since I hadn't seen him in nearly two weeks. We have had the nickname since grade school. We bonded over our shared love of Disney movies.
Drew climbs out of the car through the space where there is supposed to be a door. The car didn't actually have doors when he bought it, which I complain about whenever I ride with him.
While Drew jogs over, I glance over at Steve. His brow is pulled together he is scratching the back of his neck. Steve should know Drew. They are both on the wrestling team together.
Drew pulls me into a big hug and I giggle as he lifts me up a bit. He is about an inch and a half shorter than Steve.
"Well, I ought to go," Steve says as Drew pulls away from our hug.
"Nah, man! Come on inside, I wanted to talk to you about Riverside's team this year" Drew bids. I can't help but smile and shrug to egg on Steve. I want him to stay. What happened before Drew showed up was far from being discussed!
"Yeah, I can order a pizza or something" I chime in.
"Uh, yeah, sure. I'll stay for a bit" Steve reluctantly agrees.
I smile to myself and head back inside with Drew and the hottest kid in school behind me.
