He was searching for a local cuisine after a long day at work. People having marketing job or field job or associated with jobs involving travel more often are blessed to have opportunity to explore new cities and localities – especially food. He was no different from the club of marketing job.
After a long day in field in different city, away from home almost 300 or more kilometers, all he wanted was a food that is delicious and does not cost more than his allocated budget of his company touring policy.
Though he never cared about cost of food, still got disappointed many times in past and spent more than what quality of a food was. So a new city this time was a new opportunity for him to answer his taste buds waiting for delicacy.
After almost an hour roaming on his bike in a new city, he finally reached a hotel or it was not probably a hotel or even restaurant. It seemed like a moderately big square hall having dinner tables accompanied with four chairs each. No ambient lighting but a tube lights at all four ends of a square hall. Each table was having a fixed plate contained four small bowls. Four bowls, all of were filled with salads, onions, chilies and lemons respectively. The hall seemed like a daily eating place for nearby factory workers or even white collar persons. Hunger does not discriminate based on your job profiles, sometimes not even your taste buds do.
As soon as he entered the hall, he quickly placed his back pack on one of the empty table and made his way to washroom. After a long day at work, splash of water on face do wonders and it did with him too. After washing his hands thoroughly he made himself seated on table. As he seated, waiter quickly made his way to him and asked what he would like to have. As the place didn’t offered variety of foods, the menu was fixed daily. So without wasting much time he ordered a fix plate.
As his order arrived in a moment, he was surprised with pace of service. Without noticing much about the ambiance and other people at hall, he decided to quickly satisfy his taste buds long awaited for the day. When he was about to finish meal, a waiter was there by his side again, this time uninvited. He thought the waiter would have misheard him and said he didn’t call for. But the waiter stood firmly even after clearly hearing his voice. Now the situation was awkward for a marketing professional like him. He even started thinking he might have wrongly guessed quality of the service again. He was about to get up, when he was forced to seat by the waiter. He asked why waiter is behaving like this, to which the waiter pointed towards his unfinished plate of meal and said politely that he need to finish the contents of the plate fully! And he was surprised again. He didn’t ask any further questions but finished all so that he can quickly go to manager of the hotel and solve the matter of awkwardness.
As he made his way to table of manager, he asked the manager to look into matter. Manager said that these are the rules of their hotel to stop wastage of food and described how difficult for them to see waste of food which could be fed to some other customers and even could lead to cost cutting from hotel side.
Our fellow got surprised by words ofwisdom of a small town entrepreneur. All he could do was smile and got out after paying his bill which was only 70 bucks.
As he was leaving he noticed a quote, on hotels outside wall.
“Money is yours, but resources are of society! “
