Taken by the woods -a Prim POV

Chapter 18

I wake up to a cannon fire.im look around frantically for Rue,who is nowhere to be found.i quickly throw on my jacket and hop out of our tree house,well I don't acutely hop out more like fall out.as soon as I look up,Thresh is above me with his hand out stretched to help me up.i take it then start looking around for Rue again.Thresh stops me by saying,"Rue ok,she in the wheat field and I came here to take you too".Im puzzled,why would she leave without me after we built this big tree house and everything? "um ok,let me gather our stuff" I say putting my axes into a backpack."be fast,I don't want to leave Rue alone" he says handing me some of the left over Jasmine petals.I smile and take them,then we get going.its dark now and the arena's night creatures are scaring me.i have never liked the woods and never will,but I have to get used to them now.i listen to owls and crickets and leaves rustling in the slight breeze.all of those sounds haunt me.i try to make the memories of my sister leave my mind but with every sound,with every smell,I seem to get closer and closer to crying.but I can't,I can't cry to anyone!not Thresh,not Rue,not anyone!me and Tresh take a break from walking,since we must have walked atlest half of the arena by now.i find a big rock and lay down,facing the sky."I could stay here forever" says Thresh in a soft whisper.i look over confused,"stay here?forever?we are in a arena with other kids trying to kill us!and you want to stay?!" "not like that" he says still calm as ever,"I mean with all the sounds of the woods at night and the gentle breeze with the sound of the near by lake".im shocked!i have never heard Thresh speak in such way."once every winter,me and my dad would venture far out to the edge of 11 and camp for one night by the woods" he tells me,"and that one night,is why I worked as hard as I could to get a day off. it was my favorite place in the whole world!Do you like the woods?" he asks.i try to come up with a story avoiding my sister's departure but I find that the truth in his story should match mine."well I have never liked them,but now the I hate them.my sister went to the woods one day and never came back.they just bring back bad memories" I say frowning."I see" he says shaking his head,"well promise my that if you have the chance,that you'll try the woods again,and make happy memories there" he says more sternly and he is focused on my eyes. "I will" I lie.i will never get out of this arena but what ever makes him happy.he smiles then gets up,"well we get back to Rue now".i laugh,"Why do you change your voice?".i laughs too and answers with,"I want it to sound more...dangerous!"I tilt my head to the side trying to understand,"stupid people are dangerous!and I drove Glimmer away by talking like this" I laugh and start walking,it's almost like a made a new friend.as soon as we find Rue we go to sleep.we are covered by the field that's on this side of the arena.before I go to sleep I think of the promise I had made.the one about the woods
