Taken by the woods -a Prim POV

Chapter 24

Today I don't wake up to a slap,it's more like a cannon.i glance around the cornucopia to see that Glimmer and Cato are gone,they must be hunting.Clove comes over and unties me then motions me to come with her.Wow she's not dragging me this morning!I follow her over to where the Careers slept last night.she tells me to sit down and then she goes and gets some jerky for me."I thought I wasn't allowed to eat your food" I say confused."Well since it's just you me and him,we'll be alright,but eat quick,because Cato is coming back to take you hunting with him".after I eat I get my bow and wait for Cato and Glimmer."Do you ever get to go hunting?",I ask Clove."I will today!Cato assigned me to make sure you don't run away and Glimmer isn't the best with the bow she's got" Clove answers while putting her set of knives in her jacket."Do you only use knives?"."mostly yes,but every once in a while I'll throw a ax or two" Clove admits."Can I try throwing one?not at anyone,but just at a tree".Clove looks unsure at me then grabs to knives,"I guess,but don't damage them".she positions me in front of a sycamore tree to practices.she gives me one then goes to position me when I say,"I've got it".She looks at me and laughs,"Oh ok Bow girl!".i tighten my grip on the knife then go into the position I would for throwing a ax,then send the knife into the bark of the tree."Wow you do know what your doing!" she laughs.i smile and give a light laugh too."ok can you twist and aim?" Clove says crossing her arms."No!im not that good!" we both laugh,then we practice a little more until Cato comes.He and Glimmer stride towards us.i grab my bow and hand Clove her knife back."Hey Clove,I think I found two tributes over by the stream!take Princess and let's go!",Cato says very enthusiastically.once in the woods I find myself being the outcast.Cato and Clove are laughing and talk about District 2 and there families.i never have thought about the career's parents.once the stream is insight Cato gives us a plan,"Clove,you and I will take the boy and umm-" he pauses to remember my name."Prim",Clove says after a minute."yeah Prim.ok so Prim you can take the girl".i load my bow and put my hunters feet to work.i raise my bow and aim.as I release the arrow I close my eyes,not wanting to see the one who I have slaughtered.i hide behind a tree and wait for them to finish.they come back happily,talking about and mocking the boy they just killed.for the rest of the day I don't eat.all I can think about is the girl's family.they must hate me.they must wish me a long painful death,and what would Katniss say?would she understand that I had to kill to stay alive,or would she look at me in displeasure and disappointment?these questions have no answer but I can't help but think of them.that night I go in and out of sleep.woken up by nightmares of the girl's family or of District 12 banishing me from ever going back because I was a cold wild killer.i wake to the ropes that hold me to the tree being untied.for a second I have a flicker of hope that Thresh has come to rescue me,but I see clove come back in front of me."Sorry,I didn't mean to wake you,you were just shivering super bad.and I thought you might like a blanket",she puts the blanket around my shoulders."its ok,I can't sleep" I say looking up at her."well me either"."really?why?" I say confused."well I have been missing home.today me and Cato talked about it and I guess I'm home sick.its babyish I know" she says looking down at the ground."no it's not!everyone misses home.i know I do!but I miss my old life most of all" I sigh."Prim,I want you to know something" she says looking me in the eyes,"I want to thank you for putting up with me and my problems.not a lot of people do"."well thank you for letting me live".she gives a little laugh but then realizes that im serious."I don't want you to die." she looks at me with serious face."Why?its just one step closer to your victory" I say puzzled."I want you to live because your more important.you care about everything,you help others,you kind.to kill you is like killing a angel".i look down,thinking about how selfish I have been."I'm gonna let you go",says Clove."What?!" I say louder then I should have."shhh!Im letting you go find your friends.if anyone asks say you snuck out while I was asleep",she says getting my backpack I had with Rue."thank you so much!" I say in a whisper.she helps me up and hugs me then puts one hand on my shoulder I says,"Be safe".and it hit me,she was just like Katniss.
