The Quidditch Match
Caedis
As they entered November, the weather became increasingly colder and wetter. There was frost on the ground every morning. As the first quidditch match of the season approached, the tension between Gryffindor and Slytherin grew ever higher.
Caedis and Krissy were sitting in the Great Hall, Caedis next to Harry-which of course, Krissy teased her about-and Krissy next to her. Caedis was happily eating her cereal, ready to see the shocked reaction on Celine La Rinx’s face as she saw Gryffindor beat them.Assuming Gryffindor did beat Slytherin. But Caedis had complete faith in that. Caedis had noticed Harry wasn’t eating his breakfast, and looked at him with concern. “Harry, are you alright?” She asked him.
“Y-yeah. Just.....just nervous, that’s all.”
“Harry, you need to eat!” Caedis pushed.
“But I’m not hungry!”
“Harry,” Caedis warned.
“Caedis, I’m not hungry. What if I mess up? The whole team will hate me! I’ll lose the game, and everything will go wrong!” He ranted. Krissy gave him a flat look.
“Harry, you’ll be fine! There’s a reason McGonagall put you on the team. She believes in you! If a teacher has faith that you won’t screw up majorly, then you probably won’t.” Caedis stared at Krissy when she added the probably. “Okay, you won’t. End of story!”
“I can’t help but be nervous!”
“When you’re flying, you’ll get more nervous if you don’t eat! Eating relieves stress, as Ron has so clearly portrayed over there,” Caedis pointed to Ron as he continued to eat the mountain on his plate.
“Yeah mate, you’ll do great! Besides, as Hermione said, it’s in your blood! Your dad was Seeker of his time, and he won all the House Cups for Gryffindor repeatedly!” Caedis and Krissy looked at each other in shock, then at Harry.
“What!?” They asked him in unison. He nodded weakly.
Caedis scoffed. “Harry Potter! You’ll do absolutely fine! Now eat! I beseech you to!”
“Beseech?”
“Oh, just do it!” Slowly, Harry started to eat his breakfast. Caedis smirked in satisfaction.
The sun was shining and there was a soft breeze, as Caedis and Krissy walked down to the quidditch pitch after breakfast. They were both dressed in as much red as they could, without looking like a muggle fire engine.
Caedis found them good seats in the Gryffindor section of the stadium, right in the front. She watched as the players walked out on the field and cheered loudly for the Gryffindors. The captains shook hands (Gryffindor’s was a tall fourth year named Oliver Wood)and the players took their positions in the air. Madame Hooch tossed a dark red ball up in the air-
“And the Quaffle is taken immediately by Angelina Johnson of Gryffindor -- what an excellent Chaser that girl is, and rather attractive, too --”
“JORDAN!”
“Sorry, Professor.” A dark-skinned boy with dreadlocks was doing the commentary for the game.
“And she's really belting along up there, a neat pass to Alicia Spinnet, a good find of Oliver Wood's, last year only a reserve -- back to Johnson and -- no, the Slytherins have taken the Quaffle, Slytherin Captain Marcus Flint gains the Quaffle and off he goes -- Flint flying like an eagle up there -- he's going to sc-no, stopped by an excellent move by Gryffindor Keeper Wood and the Gryffindors take the Quaffle -- that's Chaser Katie Bell of Gryffindor there, nice dive around Flint, off up the field and -- OUCH -- that must have hurt, hit in the back of the head by a Bludger --Quaffle taken by the Slytherins -- that's Adrian Pucey speeding off toward the goal posts, but he's blocked by a second Bludger -- sent his way by Fred or George Weasley, can't tell which -- nice play by the Gryffindor Beater, anyway, and Johnson back in possession of the Quaffle, a clear field ahead and off she goes -- she's really flying -- dodges a speeding Bludger -- the goal posts are ahead -- come on, now, Angelina -- Keeper Bletchley dives -- misses -- GRYFFINDORS SCORE!”
All of a sudden there was a shriek from the Hufflepuffs. A girl with long dark brown hair was pointing up into the sky where Harry Potter was flying. Except, he wasn’t flying anymore. Harry had started to flail wildly upon his broom. Caedis gasped as he nearly fell off. Her eyes widened, and she started to panic. Her heart raced wildly as Harry hung on from only one hand. Merlin, what if he fell off? What was going on? What if he got hurt? He could die if he fell from that height!
All around her the crowd was starting to realize that the youngest player in a century was in danger of a painful death. People were pointing up towards him and whispering to their neighbors.
“Oh my God! Harry! Be careful! Hang on tight, Harry!” Caedis screamed frantically. She started hyperventilating in fright for the raven-haired boy. Krissy started patting her back soothingly, saying repeatedly that Harry would be fine. She sounded more like she was trying to reassure herself. Every turn that Harry’s broom took, Caedis shrieked. Her heart was racing a marathon in her chest, its loud beats throbbing in her ears. “HARRY! WATCH OUT!” She screamed loudly, although the Quidditch players couldn’t hear her over the gasps of the crowd and the blowing wind.
“It has to be Snape. He’s jinxing his broom!” She heard Hermione whispering to Ron. She tried to calm herself down so she could hear. “He’s not blinking. Direct eye contact is needed to jinx someone.” The pieces clicked in Caedis’s mind.
“What!?” She yelled loudly. “Snape is the reason Harry’s flying like a leaf in the wind out there!?”
“Basically,” Hermione nodded frantically. “I’m going to go and see if I can make him lose eye contact.
“Hermione,”Caedis snapped through clenched teeth. “Go kick Snape to hell and back before I do it myself!” Hermione nodded and ran, not wanting Caedis to intervene. Caedis sat back down with a huff. She saw Krissy grinning at her.
“What?” She snapped irritably, shifting her worried gaze back to Harry, still flying wildly.
“Someone’s protective!” Caedis just shook her head and sighed, never losing sight of Harry. Her hands flew to her mouth as Harry lost his grip on one of his hands.
“Krissy!” She squeaked, terrified. “He could die if he fell from this height!” Her eyes widened as she rocked back and forth in her seat, hyperventilating. Krissy almost gasped when she saw Caedis’s eyes were slightly glassy. She dismissed it as the harsh coldness of the wind. Caedis, however barely noticed. Caedis noticed a commotion over at the teachers stand, and saw Snape step on his robe, and she smiled. Thank you, Hermione She thought gratefully as she saw Harry get back on his broom. She sighed in relief and brushed hurriedly at the wetness clinging to her long eyelashes. Harry started to zip down to the ground, tumbling onto the sand as he left his broom. Caedis started to worry again. Was he hurt? He stood up, groaning. His hands were placed lightly on his stomach. He started to retch. Caedis slightly recoiled. She told him he would get sick if he didn’t eat properly!
Harry coughed up something into his hand, and held it out in awe. It was the golden Snitch! Gryffindor had won! Caedis looked in triumph at Celine. She was right; Celine was staring in outrage and shock. She smirked. In your face La Rinx!
She turned to Krissy and high-fived her. “Boo-yah! We won! That’s right! In your FACES Slytherin!” Krissy jumped excitedly with her.
“Boo-yah?” She asked once they had calmed down. Oh right, she wouldn’t know that term. Caedis waved it off.
“American thing.” She explained shortly.
“Ohhh.” Krissy looked a lot less confused.
The cheers of Gryffindors and the groans of Slytherins filled the stadium. The match was over. They had won.
