Invisible Friend
Celine
“Darn it! I left my herbology book in Charms!” Celine said annoyedly as she and Draco left the quidditch stadium. “I need that or Professor Sprout will kill me. Doesn’t Flitwick take stuff students have left behind to his office?”
“No clue. Ask a Ravenclaw,” he sneered, “If they’re really that smart.”
“Hey you!” Celine shouted to a first year Ravenclaw, “Zaelie right? Where’s Flitwick’s office?”
Zaelie let a little smile appear on her face. “The third floor corridor. Do you know where that-?”
“Yeah, yeah, great, whatever.” Draco and Celine walked up to the third floor in silence.
As they rounded the corner of the hall on the third floor, Celine and Draco saw a door. “This must be it....” Celine said cautiously and opened the door. They heard a low growl and then a mass of teeth came at them. Draco, who had entered the room, jumped back with a yell of pain. “Draco!”
His leg was bleeding and it didn’t look good. Celine brought him to the hospital wing.
“What exactly caused this?” Madame Pomfrey asked.
“I told you, he fell down the stairs and hit a suit of armor! Someone must have pushed him.”
Though Madame Pomfrey looked like she didn’t really believe this story, she went back to tending to Draco’s leg. Pansy Parkinson suddenly rushed in, followed by Crabbe and Goyle. “Draco, I came as soon as I heard. Millicent told me-” she spotted Celine. Her face morphed from one of pain to one of hatred. “What are you doing here?”
“I was with him when it happened!”
Pansy glared at her as though this had been some evil scheme of hers to get Draco injured on purpose. Oh Zaelie Violet, Celine thought angrily, I’m going to get you for this.

The next day in herbology Celine sidled up to Zaelie to work on studying devil’s snare with her. “Hey,” she said, smiling brightly. “I’m Celine.”
“I know.”
“You want to work with me on the devil’s snare?”
Zaelie eyed her suspiciously. Apparently she could find nothing wrong with Celine wanting to work with her. “Okay....”
“Great!”
“Who’s that?” Zaelie asked inquiringly. She was pointing to Rose who was scowling at Celine. Rose had been left to work at a pot with Pansy Parkinson.
“Oh, that’s just Rose. She’s a bit clingy.” Zaelie let out a little giggle.
“Girls! Get to work!” Professor Sprout shouted at them. The rest of the day passed smoothly with Celine sitting and working with Zaelie in every class they had together, much to the annoyance of Rose who got stuck with Pansy, Millicent, or one of the Carrow twins.
Back in the dormitory, Rose wasn’t looking at Celine, pretending she didn’t exist.
“Rose, come on! You know I would never abandon you! We’ve been best friends since we were three years old! I’ve never done anything against you!”
Rose sniffed in response. Celine walked around to face her and saw that there were tears in her eyes. “I thought Slytherin’s didn’t cry,” Celine said quietly.
“They don’t. This is just a minor rainstorm,” Rose replied meekly.
“That’s the worst excuse I have ever heard.”
“I know,” a small smile appeared on her face, “Friends?”
“Always.” They hugged and Rose wiped away the wetness from her eyes.
“So, why are you being so nice to that Zaelie girl? I thought you hated her.”
“I do.” Celine gave Rose an evil smile and Rose looked like she suddenly understood.
“What are going to do this time?”
“Find out her worst fear, or something like that, and make it reality,” Celine said with an evil glint in her eyes, all emotion gone from her features, “Oh, and remind me to destroy something of Pansy’s. It’s been a month already.”
The next week went about the same as that day. Celine was nice to Zaelie in just about everything they did. Words of this strange friendship had reached ears all over the school, and people were talking about how odd it was for a Slytherin to be this nice.
When she was walking to History of Magic, shudder, Celine heard voices coming from around the corner.
“It just doesn’t seem right for her to be friendly, the rest of the Slytherins sneer at every Ravenclaw they see! Personally, I think she’s up to something.”
“Caedis, Celine’s really nice! Why can’t you just- Oh, hi Celine!”
Celine let a smile appear on her face, while inside she wanted rip Caedis limb from limb. How dare she mess up Celine’s perfect plan? Yet, she smiled and said, “Hey! We’ve got History of Magic next, want to go now? I can’t stand it but, then at least we can get seats as far away from Binns as we can.”
“Good point. See you guys later?”
“Yeah, later...” Caedis said with a suspicious look on her face.
As they walked up to History of Magic, Celine stopped in her tracks. “What was that?” Zaelie looked around. She didn’t see anything.
“Celine, what exactly-” Suddenly, there was a shout from the end of the hall and Celine was gone.
Celine had disappeared to around the corner and was now silent laughing at Zaelie, who was looking around confusedly. Celine stopped her laughter and stared at the back of Zaelie’s red hair. A steely glare had entered her eyes.
“Strike one Zaelie Violet,” she whispered, “I’d watch your back if I was you. There might be a few things stuck in it. Sharp, silver, covered with blood things.”
