The End?

Caedis*

“No, Caedis, you’ve been there almost the whole time!” Krissy chided Caedis.

“But Krissy!” She whined. “He’s in the Hospital Wing!  I should’ve known something would happen to him! But nooooooo, it was ‘too dangerous’ for me to come along, yet he lets Hermione and Ron! Ugh!” She scoffed at the end of her rant.

“I hear Dumbledore’s going over there now. Do you really want to interrupt their little chat?” Sighing, Caedis shook her head. She didn’t want that to happen. “Exactly. Now quit moping and get ready for class, we  need all the points we can get.” She did have a point there. Hufffing, Caedis got her uniform and robe together, took her bag, and went out to the Great Hall for breakfast.

Caedis was fidgeting in her seat in between Krissy and Harry. Ron sat next to Krissy, and Hermione on Ron’s other side. Caedis looked over to the Ravenclaw table where she say Helena and Zaelie, playfully making a gesture that pointedly said We are so beating you. Caedis stuck her tongue out and grinned afterwards. Who knew seeing your House Points would bring such nervousness? No matter what, Caedis knew that Slytherin just couldn’t win.

Even if Gryffindor lost, she couldn’t see the satisfaction on Celine La Rinx’s face. Caedis frowned and glared at the ceiling as she saw the green and silver banners decorate the Great Hall. A giant banner displaying the Slytherin serpent behind the teachers’ table. Apparently, this was the seventh year in a row that Slytherin won the House Cup.

“Another year gone!” Dumbledore announced loudly. “And I must trouble you with an old man’s wheezing waffle before we sink our teeth into our delicious feast. What a year it has been! Hopefully your heads are a little fuller than they were...You have the whole summer ahead to get them nice and empty before the next year starts....

“Now as I understand it, the house cup here needs awarding, and the points stand thus: In fourth place, Gryffindor, with three hundred and twelve points-” All the Gryffindor’s groaned loudly and the Slytherins snickered loudly at their misfortune. “-In third, Hufflepuff, with three hundred and fifty-two; Ravenclaw has four hundred and twenty six, and Slytherin, four hundred and seventy two.” Loud cheers broke out from the Slytherin table. Caedis saw Celine smirking at her. She also noticed Harry looking sickeningly at Draco Malfoy banging his goblet on the table. “Yes, yes, well done, Slytherin.” Dumbledore mumbled. Caedis wondered idly what house Dumbledore was in. “However, recent events must be taken into account.” Caedis straightened and sent a sickly sweet smirk at Celine and Rose as the Slytherins’ smiles faded. “Ahem, I have a few last minute points to dish out.

“Let me see. Yes...First- to Mr. Ronald Weasley...” Ron’s face turned purple. “For the best-played chess game Hogwarts has seen in many years, I award Gryffindor fifty points.” The cheers from the Gryffindor table shook the stars in the bewitched ceiling overhead. Caedis heard their prefect, Percy Weasley, telling the other prefects ‘that’s my youngest brother, you know! Got past McGonagall's giant chess set!’

“Second- to Miss Hermione Granger...For the use of cool logic in the face of fire, I award Gryffindor House fifty points!” Caedis smiled as Hermione buried her head in her arms.

“Thirdly-to Mr. Harry Potter.” Caedis turned to Harry and smiled an affectionate smile as he looked mildly surprised. Whispers started circulating around the hall. “I award sixty points. For the use of bravery and pure love.” The Gryffindors all applauded.

“And lastly-to Mr. Neville Longbottom...It takes bravery to stand up to your enemies, but much more to stand up to your friends. I award ten points to Gryffindor House.” Everyone cheered loudly and thumped Neville’s back as he looked up at Dumbledore, surprise written clear on his face. With the added points, Gryffindor had won the house cup! Gryffindor house and all the others cheered loudly, as almost everyone hated Slytherin house. Caedis threw her arms around Harry excitedly and squealed. She realized what she was doing, and quickly let go, blushing furiously. Krissy wiggled her eyebrows at Caedis and a very pink Harry. Caedis glared, but smirked as she saw Ron shake Krissy’s shoulders.

“We won! We bloody won! That’ll show those pureblood freaks! We won!” She looked over to Ravenclaw table where Helena and Zaelie were, clapping proudly and smiling at her.

“Good job!” They mouthed. Caedis just smiled wider. She  turned her attention to Neville, and grinned madly. “Way to go, Neville! You won us the House Cup!” The whole table cheered the four point-winners as the feast came by. Caedis smirked at Slytherin table along with Harry, feeling enlightened by Rose and Celine’s enraged facial expressions and Draco’s glare at his plate. She turned to Harry as she saw Draco’s mouth move, saying something to his plate.

“Three guesses on what he said..”

“My father will hear about this!” They chorused together. Caedis plunged her fork into a slice of pie and savored the sweet taste of it.

***

“I’m going to miss you so much, Krissy!” Caedis cried, flinging her arms around her dorm mate. “Oh, Hermione! I’m going to miss you too!” She pointed to both of them with an accusing finger. “You better write to me! Or else!” Caedis took her trunk and ran out the Gryffindor Common Room, shouting a goodbye to all her fellow Gryffindors and the Fat Lady.

“It’s weird that it’s already the end of the  school year, isn’t it? Feels like it just started.”

“Oh, this isn’t the end of anything,” Caedis replied, “It’s only the beginning.”

THE END!
