I sat in my room, doing my English homework. My room was dark except for a small lamp illuminating a bit of my room. It was a bitter cold winter night, the wind howled around the house as rain thundered down. And it was so cold I was wearing a thick padded coat.

I finally finished my homework and shoved it back into my school bag. Now I can relax, I turned on the TV and flicked through some channels until I found one playing my favourite TV show. I lay down on my bed enjoying the moment until I heard the sound of my mother calling my name. "Laura!" I groaned, what did she want now? I had already done the washing up, my homework and hung up the washing. "Laura!" She called again. I got out of bed and walked down the corridor. "Laura," "I'm coming!" I yell. I started walking down the stairs until I felt a hand grab me...

I screamed and tried fighting it off until I realized who had grabbed me. It was my mum. I stared in disbelief. "Don't worry, I heard it too," she whispered, her voice shaky. "What? But I thought you were downstairs," she shook her head, her face tense. She quickly locked the door and pushed a cabinet in front of it. "Laura..." the voice that had once sounded like my mother had now a demonic tone to it, as if two people were speaking in unison. "What's going on?" I asked. My mum put a finger to her lips and motioned for me to hide under the bed. I quietly scrambled under the bed. She came under too, hugging me tightly.

Tears rolled down my eyes as I heard the sound of footsteps slowly walk up the stairs. Suddenly, the thing sped up and started running up the stairs on all fours. We tensed. My mum held me tight, my hand covered my mouth.

I heard the thing reach the final step, it moved closer to the door, with every step I felt an inexplicable feeling of death getting closer. I squeezed my eyes shut and hugged my mum tighter. "Laura..." the voice that had once resembled that of my mother's had changed. It sounded demonic and croaky. "What is that thing?" I wondered.

I stifled a cry as the thing grabbed the door handle and jiggled it vigorously. My mum put a finger to her lips, tears flowed down my face like a waterfall now. The door was locked, but something told me the creature wasn't going to give up, and it was just a matter of time before it found a way in. Suddenly, it started slamming the door, it let out a ferocious, bone-chilling screech and continued slamming, it got louder and louder, I covered my ears and squeezed my mum's arm tight. It started to slam its body against the door, BANG BANG BANG!
