A/N: Hey friends! Remember, if you have any requests, send them my way :)
Crutchie felt defeated. Absolutely and positively defeated. All of his life he felt kindness was the way to go if you wished to someday be blessed with eternal happiness as well. As cliché as the whole karma thing was, Crutchie truly hoped it was true; at least a little bit.
With a groan, his leg feeling stiff again, he sat at the staircase of the house, pouting and wiping the tears away from his eyes. Crutchie wished that the boy he had met was next to him. More importantly, he wished he had any clue as to what his name might. He wanted someone, anyone, to help him.
After moping for a moment, Crutchie got up to start his chores, only to hear a knock at his door. Confused, he slowly opened the door; only to see Elmer, Albert, David Jacobs, and Finch on the other side.
"W-What-" Crutchie stepped back. "What are you guys doing here?"
"We're here to get you to the ball, of course!" Elmer spoke loudly, letting himself inside of the house; David, Albert, and Finch followed, Crutchie too confused to stop them.
"How do you mean?" Crutchie asked softly, closing the door. "My step-father isn't allowing me to go."
Albert and Elmer looked at each other before laughing. "Yeah, well we're here and worked hard on your suit so you're definitely going." Albert said, handing Crutchie a bag he assumed had this so-called suit inside of it.
"B-B-But-" Crutchie looked at the bag in his hands. "You don't know my size, and I don't have a way there, I can't walk there, my crutch-"
Finch hushed him, pointing to a door. "You just go get changed, we will have everything figured out for you, okay?"
"Yeah, Crutchie, please just go get ready." David chuckled, a pleading tone to his voice. Crutchie obliged, nervous, and went to change.
As he was gone, Finch went back outside to grab the rest of the things they had brought for Crutchie, gleeful as he set everything up. This group of boys cared immensely about Crutchie, wanting him to get away for the night and get the chance to relax without worrying about the awful family he had to live with.
When Crutchie returned, Elmer and Albert knew they had done a good job. Getting Crutchie's size right was difficult, but they made sure to bring needles and thread and whatever they would need in case there had been a mistake. But, when Crutchie revealed his new suit, it had rested against his body so nicely, there wasn't a reason to touch it.
"Oh my, God Crutchie!" Elmer squealed and Albert cheered, David and Finch joining in, a chorus of 'wow's' and 'look at you' coming from them.
It was a bold choice, but they had decided that a white suit was the perfect choice for Crutchie. His button-up was a soft blue that added the best sort of pop of color, highlighting his dark eyes. Crutchie blushed, feeling like a different person in his new clothes.
"You really didn't have to do this-"
"Of course we did." Albert shook his head. "What kind of friends would we be if we just let your family treat you like dirt and turned the other cheek?"
David nodded, agreeing. "We stand together. No matter what."
Crutchie felt the tears well back up in his eyes. "Thank you, guys. Should I leave now, then?"
"Hold on a second." David stopped him, giving a nod to Finch. "You don't think you can go with a crutch like that, do you?"
Crutchie bit his lip. "I suppose not."
Finch grinned widely, holding out a gift for Crutchie. "Why not use this one, then?"
Crutchie's eyes widen and his heart beating fast. He wasn't sure how to accept this gift. It was a beautiful new crutch, made of a dark wood that looked durable, the right height for him. It was almost too much for him to handle, this kindness from his friends.
