A/N: I kinda hate this one and my writers block is really sucking but! I'm thinking of a jackcrutchie Romeo and Juliet AU (possibly modern day) so that's fun! I promise I'll get better plot ideas :D
High school was possibly the last place Jack Kelly ever wanted to be. Especially at seven thirty in the morning, where the sun had barely risen over the city skylines of New York city. He groggily walked into his first period class and slumped into a chair next to Racetrack Higgins.
"Someone didn't have their morning cup of coffee." Racetrack commented, reaching into his bag and sliding a can to Jack. "Take it."
Jack sat up, thankfully taking the coffee from him. "Did you know you're my best friend?"
Racetrack grinned. "Yeah, yeah. But, seriously, what's got you lookin' so tired today?"
"I was up all night doing the homework for English." Jack sighed. "Why do we have to study Shakespeare anyways?" He groaned.
A sudden voice entered the conversation. "Because William Shakespeare created modern English as we know it." David Jacobs commented, turning around in his seat. "It's not Old English or New English. But somewhere in the middle. He teaches us in ways that are relatable to now and Romeo and Juliet is just the surface of all the inspiring works he created."
"I stopped paying attention to you right when you said 'Shakespeare'" Jack said, rolling his eyes. "I already know what happens at the end. All this middle garbage." He rolled his eyes. "And we've only even read Act 1! I feel like it's been years since we started."
David and Racetrack both sighed, Jack taking a long sip of the coffee in front of him. "We're reading the Balcony Scene today." Racetrack said with a grin. "I'll be happy to tell Miss Medda that you are just dying to read for Romeo."
Jack scowled. "You're the absolute worst. Don't do that. Let Romeo read for it, he's been talking about how alike they are for ages." He laughed and David nodded in agreement, not wanting to see Jack wreck the art he so dearly loved.
"I don't think Jack should read if he doesn't want to." David shrugged.
"Davey, you're only sayin' that because you don't want me to read it." Jack laughed.
"Oh, Miss Medda! Racetrack called out when she walked into the room. "Jacky here has been going on and on about how badly he wants to read for Romeo today!"
Jack groaned and yelled out about how much he definitely didn't want to. "Miss Medda, who are ya gonna believe here! Him or me!"
Miss Medda rolled her eyes, sitting at her desk. "I am tired of you boys fighting every day and causing trouble." She grinned and opened her book, signaling for everyone to do the same. "I think you would be a wonderful Romeo, Jack. Thank you for being volunteered."
Jack tried to protest but Medda ignored him. "Do I have anyone willing to read for Juliet?"
"I'll do it." A soft voice spoke in the front of the classroom.
Crutchie Morris had sat at the front of every class since desks made their way into kindergarten classrooms. He was shy and sweet, freckles and light hair that was almost too long. He and Jack had known each other for a long while, Crutchie too nervous to talk to him and Jack too stubborn to admit he had feelings for him.
Jack already could feel the butterflies in his stomach, shaking his head. He already felt nervousness, staring at the boy across the room. "J-Juliet is a-"
