Coordinating A Surprise

"Hello citizens of Striaton City!" Cilan said, standing on top of a podium in front of the restaurant. "You may be wondering why, tonight, the showcase has started early and why we are outside. I will answer your questions, but first, my brothers and I have an announcement. We have decided to close the gym."

People, customers, started murmuring among themselves.

"Please don't be alarmed whether you are mildly or extremely alarmed. The good news about this is we have decided to keep the restaurant!" Cilan continued. "Tonight, we have a special show for all of you. A few trainers have decided to help us out by putting on a local Coordinator Contest. Some are not coordinators but they have the passion for it! We promise this will be a great show."

We were standing right behind the brothers, ready for this. Sophia and I would save our best for last. To extend the show, we all decided on doing three different performances, then our battle. Emolga was on my shoulder and Lillipup at my side. I would use Emolga for appearances and Lillipup for the battle.

"Please take seats on the benches placed around the courtyard," Chili said speaking into a microphone at the top of the steps leading to the restaurant.

Everyone sat at benches with tablecloths on them. On the tablecloths were menus so they could still order while watching the show.

"The first coordinators are Travis and Tori!" Cilan said after replacing Chili.

The two stepped forward, Travis with Tepig and Tori with a Beartic we haven't seen before. Fire and Ice. Of course.

They duo nodded to each other, signaling the start of the round.

"Tepig, Ember!" Travis said.

"Follow it up with Ice Beam!"

Tepig released the hot coals, then Beartic used Ice Beam, covering them. I half expected them to go out, but instead, they were glowing, trapped inside perfectly structured ice crystals.

"Aerial Ace!" I wouldn't have expected it to happen for a little Pokemon, but the big one smashed through the ice. It threw small shards with a mix do embers flying throw the air. The ice caught the glare of the setting sun and reflected orange waves of light everywhere. The audience clapped, loudly.

'Of course, they hardly ever see a coordination competition' I thought. To avoid consistency, we would now switch. It was our turn. Sophia brought the floating Munna behind her. During practice, we got a big surprise. Both of our Pokemon learned new moves that definitely would help us in this first act.

"Emolga! Start off with Thunderbolt!" I heard our opponents give off a little gasp when I said that. They both didn't expect it. Munna's next move would be halfway finished.

"Munna, Synchronoise!" Munna let off a transparent wave that collided with Emolga's stronger version of Thundershock. Thunderbolt has a chance of paralysis, so Synchronoise took the chance out of the move and sprayed it into the sky. The yellow particles exploded in the air, creating yellow fireworks. "Now use Lucky Chant!" Sophia said. As planned, the Lucky Chant absorbed the electrical charge, and turned them into bright yellow stars, creating a Swift-like appearance.

"Emolga, Quick Attack!" Agility would have been too fast for this next part, but Quick Attack was just fine. Emolga rushed through the sky. To do this, we needed to hurry. As soon as she reached the temporary Swift, I said, "Thunder Wave!" and she stored the move in her tail immediately. It sounded like a giant vacuum just sucked everything up. Absolute silence for the next few seconds, then Emolga released the energy into the sky, creating an electrical rainbow of stars and static.

As the audience clapped, Emolga glided to the ground. I knelt down and gave her a tiny high five. We turned and looked at Tori and Travis. They seemed a little...shocked. However, they shook it off and took their next performance opportunity. Travis used Tepig again, but Tori went out with a little Litwick.
