Chapter 3
~ A week later ~
I've used all resources available to the hunters, I spoke to all the informants I could locate. No one wanted to give out any information when it came to her, not even when threatened. I've never known a vampire that had such loyalty towards her or respect, but if you dig enough, there's always that one loser, and eventually I found the weak link.
A Vampire, having a hard time coping, his drug addiction pushing him to the edge. He had a hard time staying in control of his hunger as an addict. It didn't take a lot of persuading to get him to give me something to work with, in return for a fix. But providing drugs was not my scene.
I had tortured the vampire until he begged me to stop, he finally gave me something, It wasn't much, just the name of a club. The club where they hung out. "Vampires Kiss"
I was frustrated, I wanted to kill him. That was old news, That club closed down before she went on the run.
That's when the vampire gave me my first real lead... "Not that one, the new one... Same name" he spatted out together with some blood as a result of being tortured.
At first I thought she had to be really stupid to use the same name as the previous club, but I soon learned that it was actually a brilliant plan. All searches ended at the original club, dead ends, it was a brilliant decoy. For anyone not knowing, the search would end there.
I visited the original club, or what was left of it. There wasn't much left but I did find an old notebook in one of the offices, amongst the rubble. I identified it as having belonged to Sabastian, Aurora's Vampire sibling.
I visited all the addresses written down, none very eventful, until I found an address of a penthouse.
Even though the place had been deserted for some time, it was still locked, I had to break in to gain access.
I found a few unopened envelopes on the desk in the study, someone had been maintaining this place, it was clean-ish other than a bit of dust and all the post had been collected and placed in a pile on the desk in the study.
I went through the post, mostly letters from various banks and institutions about increase rates or new investment opportunities. There's also a few invoices for stock bought for the club, and then my lucky break... An invoice stating a delivery address, not the same address as the club down here... I was going to Brazil.
On my way out I notice a laptop bag standing upright against the wall. It has been there for some time as bit of dust had accumulated on it. Peeping inside I notice a laptop, a note book and a little recorder... This might give me more clues as to her location and hopefully some inside information that may be useful in tracking her.
I grabbed the bag and snuck back out.
Back at my place I start with my detail board, the same I do with every contract I work. I study the photo of Aurora again, trying to burn her image into my mind, it's difficult because her beauty keeps distracting me, and my thoughts keep wondering... it frustrates me that a vampire has this effect on my mind.
I grab a thumbtack and pin the photo up in the centre of the board. On the side I pin up a map where I've circled, with a highlighter, her penthouse and the original club.
In the top left corner, I stick up a picture of Robert. Yes I have spied on him as well, in the past week. Part of being a good hunter is not only knowing your mark but knowing the one behind it, especially if it's a dangerous one that can turn on you.
Taking a seat behind my desk I start pressing buttons on the laptop I found. It wasn't all that difficult to hack, and I've already established that it belonged to a certain Alex Monroe. Looking into the name I found out he is a successful author, editor and publisher... Who is also missing. Vanished without a trace. He went missing around the same time she was rumoured to have gone into hiding. Very suspicious.
