Chapter 13

Watching the flames dance in the fireplace situated in the centre of the cozy lounge, at the guesthouse Sabastian booked us into. A quiet calmness has fallen upon the room and the only sound was that of the crackling sound the wood made as it burned. The charcoal burned wood turning into glowing Ambers, the stillness followed by the all familiar sound of clinging ice cubes as Sabastian swirls his glass before taking a sip.

Alex was comfortably laying on one of the couches, his head resting on Joshua's lap while Joshua was tentatively running his fingers through Alex's hair. On the floor beside them, with her back resting against the couch, Kate sat flipping through a pile of magazines.

On the opposite side of the room, Sabastian lounged in a one seater. Just behind him seated at a small dining table, sat the two brothers Vince and Terrance, playing a silent game of cards.

Although we are one team there's a clear division between vampires and werewolves and it did not slip my attention that I was situated in the centre, as if the barrier between the two groups.

Deciding to break the silence I ask Sabastian "What's the story with Gaia?", and immediately all attention is focused on him, waiting for Sabastian to answer but instead he does the exact same thing she did when I asked her if she knew him. Sabastian just shrugs his shoulders and then takes another sip from his glass.

Me:" You guys know each other, she reacted the same way when she heard your name... So spill it"

Sabastian: "Fine... Well, her real name isn't Gaia. Like with Aurora, the name was given to her... And no, I don't recall her name before she was called Gaia."

Me:"So the name was given to her... That means she's a witch?"

Sabastian:"I guess"

Me: "You guess?"

Sabastian downs the remainder of his drink, then gets up and walk over to the alcohol cabinet to pour himself another drink. He seems to be deep in thought and I almost thought he wasn't going to answer me when he states "I told you before, I don't know much about witches or their ways and customs... I don't particularly care.

Me:" Okay, so how did you meet? "

Sabastian:" A few years ago I was in Asia, I can't even remember why I was there but It was one party after another. I was suppose to meet up with Aurora in South America but I lost track of time. When I finally made my way onto the private plane, I wasn't ready to stop partying so I insisted the pilot join me for a few drinks... Yes, I know they are not allowed to drink while piloting, and of course he refused but I can be very persuasive. "

Me:" You seduced the pilot to have drinks for you? "

Sabastian laughs" Yeah I guess I did"

Me: "I seriously think you have a drinking problem"

Sabastian frowns and takes another sip "I don't have a drinking problem... I drink, I get drunk and pass out... No problem"

Me: "You need new lines bro... That's so old not to mention lame"

Sabastian: "Fuck you!" he grabs the bottle from the cabinet and walks past everyone, filling up their glasses before plonking back into his couch. He's not upset, our friendship has become one of such that we constantly rip each other off.

"Anyway... I told him way in advance the destination was South America but somehow the drunk fuck flew us to South Africa"

That was all it took for everyone to burst out laughing. Once everyone was in a calmer state he continued "I figured, I was there, might as well enjoy it so I spent the next week or so visiting one club and bar after the other. It was a hell of an experience... Not that I can remember all that much, but I had fun nonetheless... somehow I ended up along the coast. I was even contemplating opening a club of my own.
