Chapter 10
I couldn't believe my eyes. Vatican city was swarming with vampires, and it didn't take long to notice some of the popular hot-spots where these vampires liked to hang out.
It was rather worrying to me as a hunter, that there were so many tourist and even locals around, seemingly unaware of the Vampire infestation...even more worrying is for that exact reason, as hunters we were unaware of this vampire hot spot. We pride ourselves in keeping record of where vampires are and if there is increased activity its cause for concern. Vatican City was huge cause for concern.
To my dismay I didn't see Robert or Mikhail, and I was losing hope that Jennifer's lead was of any substance... Vatican City is a large place to look for some vampire that may not even be around and whom is protected by a cloaking spell... but I was not about to give up that quickly so I hung around the hot-spots day in and day out, I didn't have any other leads to go on.
The more days that passed the more I wondered if I was wasting my time and the more my thoughts kept wondering back to Aurora... Sure I was still livid with her but I liked being around her and I started to miss that connection we shared. Me being a loner for years now, I strangely enjoyed her company.
On the 4th day I was strolling through St. Peter's Square slowly making my way between hot spots in hopes to finally catch a break when a woman with wild red hair caught my attention as she hastily made her way across the square. At first I wasn't sure, but when I saw a vampire quick walking after her I knew I was onto something, and decided to follow her. There was something about this woman with the wild red hair that seemed Vaguely familiar.
As they made their way down a couple of narrow, winding little side streets I suddenly recalled Alex's notes describing Aurora's half-sister Abigail, Robert's witch lackey. I was certain it was her but it would be best to be sure before jumping to any conclusions, seeing how I didn't have concrete evidence on how she looked. I was following a hunch based on someone's notes... And besides she didn't look like Aurora at all, Other than the milky white skin tone, she didn't resemble Aurora in the least.
After several minutes of following them down narrow winding streets, I knew I was lost. I was paying so much attention to not losing them that I didn't take notice of my surroundings, not that I was too worried about it. Being a hunter we trained in survival techniques, tracking and being able to navigate. Other than that I also had my trusting cell phone, who needs to navigate when you've got Google maps at your disposal.
I saw Abigail run into his arms, embracing Robert. I was right, it was Abigail... I was very pleased with myself for finding the big shot Vampire even with a cloaking spell in place to keep him hidden... okay, so it was just by luck that Abigail gave it away but still. Finally, it seemed as if my luck was changing and the past few days wouldn't have been a waste of time.
Using the hunter's stealth I approached Robert and the vampires surrounding him without any of them even aware of my presence. It was only when I "dropped" in from the overhanging balcony, standing face to face with Robert, that they realized what was happening, scurrying around like headless chickens... Not knowing if they should attack or make a run for it. Abigail gave a scream in fear, startled by the sudden presence of a hunter, rendering her too shocked to do any magic.
Robert bringing calm to the sudden chaos when he raises his hand signalling everyone to freeze. "Mr. Black, what a surprise" he states in a sarcastic tone, giving Abigail a look of anger.
She immediately lowers her gaze in fear of him. I'm sure after years of her being under Robert's rule she knows that she will be punished. I can see the fear in her eyes and her hands trembling.
