I pick up the phone after only two rings. I've been waiting, but also dreading this call.

Me: " Yes" trying to sound my cold self... Trying not to give any emotions away.

Robert: "Any news?"

Me: "Regrettably, I have to advise you that the contract is terminated with immediate effect. Your upfront payment will be reimbursed as soon as you provide me with your banking details"

Robert: "Boy you don't know who you're dealing with. Do not dare double-cross me, you'll be sorry"

Me: "First of all...Don't threaten me Robert, and secondly, I'm cancelling the contract because Aurora willingly handed herself over to the Council. I can't kill her when she's a prisoner of the council awaiting trial"

Robert: "What! I know nothing of this"

I can't help but give a smirk. I so badly want to throw it In his face, tell him maybe he's not the bigshot council member he thinks. But now is not the time. I have to stay on his good side if I have any hopes of him not coming after me.

Me: "Look, My sources could only get me partial information, as far as I'm aware she knows she broke the rules when she killed those vampires and she handed herself over for fair trial."

Robert: "Really?...how interesting".

I swear I Could hear the pleasure in his voice, knowing she won't receive much of a fair trial with him on the council.

Me: "As far as I know she didn't get into details about why she killed them so I'm thinking she doesn't know that they worked for you, I don't think it will come to light that you were behind the attack or The General's death. She was all out to make the one's responsible for his death pay and she killed them and now she handed herself over...You should be in the clear and not implicated in any of it.

I'm not double-crossing you Robert, on the contrary, I'm not taking your money for the contract you took out because I didn't get the mark, and besides you are on the council and with her handing herself over to the council I'm sure you will see to her getting the death penalty anyway.

Robert is quiet for a while, making my heart feel like it's pounding in my throat. Finally he states "Fine I will sent you the banking details." then snorts and sarcastically ends his call with "Hunter's always so Nobel"

I hate him so much, if only I could speak my mind and tell him what I really think of him and his shitty remarks but I have to bite my tongue. All I can do is breathe a sigh of relief that he agreed to terminate the contract and he doesn't hold me responsible.

I still can't believe Aurora's decision to hand herself over to the council, it's suicide. What upsets me even more was the fact that we had a discussion, all of us, and decided that we would devise a plan to ensure her safety, we would find a way to clear her name. We all agreed on it and then she does what she always do...just what the hell ever she wants.

Sabastian: " Are you in the clear?"

Me: "Yeah, Robert will allow me to pay back the money. He understood that I couldn't complete the contract because ..." my voice trailing off.

Sabastian roughly squeeze and shakes my shoulder "You know why she made this decision...to protect you from Robert?"

He is trying to make me feel better but its making me feel worse. "Precisely...it's my fault". I feel frustrated all over again

Sabastian hands me a glass with his signature double shot of Jack Daniels whiskey, neat, with two blocks of ice...never more.

Sabastian: " If she didn't then Robert will have you hunted down like a dog. He is not someone you want as an enemy"
