When Luke speaks, his tone is hurried.
And deadly serious.
"Cole, you need to get out of your house now."
"What are you talking about?"
"Now, Cole. Get your parents and get out of there."

Colina Turner's content with being an atheist, but she ne...
"Told you I wouldn't bail," I said, a bag of cookie mix sling over one shoulder and a half smirk on my face before Ashton rolled her eyes at me and dragged me inside. "Come on, we've got cookies to bake. And you're letting in cold air." "Colina!" Ashton's mom said. "Good to see you!" I gave her a brief hug before she walked out the door with Ashton's dad. "Sorry, we're headed out to a movie. Don't burn down the house, okay?" "No promises!" Ash called, grinning at me. The words hit a little too close to what happened to my own house, but I didn't show it, and instead winked back at her before making my way to the kitchen and dumping everything out on the table. "Okay, so, I came up with a box for each person's dry ingredients. You said you'd take care of the others, right?" "I sure did." Ashton said, taking out eggs, vanilla extract, milk, and butter. I pulled out the boxes of cookie mix I'd put in jars for each person. Taking out the box labeled Ashton: Snickerdoodle, I opened it and pulled out the jar of dry ingredients, ready to go. I looked up at Ash.
And she had a glint of silver around her neck.
"Ashton...?" I say slowly, as if that was going to calm her, instead of make her mildly nervous. She met my brown gaze with her slate blue one, a hint of nervousness with an overdose of awkwardness on the side. I pointed to her neck. "Care to show me what's on the end of that chain?" She sighed, and pulled out the necklace from underneath her shirt.
And the other half of mine was on it.
I raised an eyebrow at her. She needed no more prompting. "Luke gave me this, told me not to tell you until I'd solved something to come. He kept talking about how you and I were going to essentially 'break up' and I shouldn't show you until the storm had blown over. He knew, Cole. Somehow he knew everything exactly as it happened. You and I making up that morning, you getting mad at me for hanging up on you and telling to get us answers, he predicted all of it." I shook my head. "But how? No one can predict the future. That's some serious shit we could be messing with. And I want no part in it."
Unfortunately for me, that wasn't going to happen.

I decided that Ashton was telling the truth, and after putting together the necklaces, discovered they said partners in crime.
