When Luke speaks, his tone is hurried.
And deadly serious.
"Cole, you need to get out of your house now."
"What are you talking about?"
"Now, Cole. Get your parents and get out of there."

Today was October 26, 2020. Halloween was Saturday. And this girl still didn't have a costume, which was something Luke totally ignored despite my constant reminders. It was still Monday. After my episode in English, nothing eventful happened. But as soon as Jade and I left Mythology, a certain someone was grabbing my wrist and pulling me to his car. "Bye, Jade!" I called as Luke dragged me hurriedly to the car and was buckled before I'd even opened my door. I slipped inside. "What's the rush?" "Shh. No questions. You'll love this, I think." Luke shifted into gear and got us out of the senior parking lot in record time, his fingers nervously drumming on the wheel. "You think?" I laugh. "You don't sound confident about this." "Ah, shut up." "Make me." I challenged. Luke glanced over at me with an expression on his face I'd never seen before on him. Then it changed to a smirk as he looked back over at the road. "Your voice is too pretty to shut you up." My cheeks heated up, and I pursed my lips to hide an embarrassed smile as I plugged in the aux cord to my phone. I shuffled Spotify and looked out the window. Some song I hadn't heard came on, but I left it playing. It was a gorgeous day out, not a cloud in the sky, and mid 70's in temperature. A nice day.

As we approached the coast, I realized where we were headed. We were headed to the beach. "Luke, we have homework. Plus, we're still in our uniforms." I protested. Luke laughed as he looked over at me. "Before you were even awake, I packed a bag for this in the car. It was going to be our only pretty day for a while, and you can bet your ass I was going to take advantage of it." I shook my head. "I only have sweats, hoodies, and my uniform stuff in your apartment. I don't own any other clothes anymore. You know that." Luke grinned. "Nevah helped." I blinked. Luke got out of the car, held a finger up for me to stay where I was, then grabbed a drawstring bag out of his trunk. He tossed it to me as he got back in the car. I opened it. Inside was a white v-neck tee, a pair of light wash ripped shorts, and a pair of simple black flip flops. It was something I'd wear if I was with my friends, not a guy.
But Luke was a friend.
Ugh, why did boys have to be so complicated?
Reluctantly, I grabbed the clothes out of the bag to put them on. "Um, can you..." I gestured for Luke to turn around. "Oh! Yeah, yeah, of course." With slightly reddish cheeks, Luke turned so he wouldn't see me. I unbuckled my seatbelt and changed as quickly as I could in the tight space. I sucked in a tiny breath. "Okay, you're good." Luke turned around. His eyes were everywhere, taking every detail of my suddenly very self conscious figure. I wasn't exactly skinny, and so I was expecting some joke about my weight, but Luke said, "You, um, you... wow." His face heated up more than I'd ever seen on him. Suddenly cocky, I smirked. "Like what you see?" Luke inhaled sharply. "You're a work of art." I rolled my eyes. "Stop. Anyway, what about you?" "I have clothes under this." Luke pulled off his hoodie to reveal a tight black shirt that was definitely not part of our uniform. I laughed. "You didn't get dress coded?" Luke grinned suggestively. "Like they ever check for it." I shrugged. "Fair enough." But then Luke started unbuttoning his pants and I nearly screamed. "What are you doing?!" He glanced up at me. "Oh! Cole, I'm not getting naked. I'm wearing shorts." I glared at him as I felt my cheeks flush up. "You better be." Luke raised three fingers. "Scout's honor." Reluctantly, I nodded. Fortunately, Luke did indeed have forest green shorts on underneath. He also exchanged his Converse for black flip flops. "Okay, you good?" He asked, enigmatic eyes searching my face intently. I swallowed hard, desperately trying to avoid the fact that I was going to the beach alone with a conventionally attractive guy, and this was the third time I'd seen this much of his ripped body. Enough of that.
