it was a saturday and harry's mum had asked him to pop to the corner shop to get some bread and eggs.

he stood in the queue rocking back and forth on his feet, holding bread, eggs and some chocolate for his mum in his arms.

there were two people in front of him, a middle aged man taking his time pointing things out to the worker that weren't allowed on the usual shelves and a girl that was a few years younger than him, he recognised her from school and being in the shop at the same time as each other a few times.

harry grimaced as he watched him pay for two bottles of whiskey and a pack of cigarettes.

he left quickly and the girl in front of him stepped towards the counter, placing just a bottle of milk on it.

harry sighed, his arms were getting tired.

"£1.50 please love"

"o-oh, i only have £1", she choked out, she must've been embarrassed harry thought.

he stepped forward and put his items on the counter before the man could argue with the girl.

"can you put the milk with my items", harry asked nonchalantly, digging into his pocket to find the five pound note his mother gave him.

the girl awkwardly stood there, not knowing if harry just wanted her milk or if he was going to give it to her.

she was still bright red in the face when harry turned towards her.

"there you go, don't worry about it", he said kindly, passing the girl the milk.

he picked up the rest of his purchases from the counter, getting ready to go home and sleep.

she held the milk to her chest, eyes shining with amazement.

"w-what? thankyou so much! i'll repay you when i see you next! promise!", she squealed, her cheeks slowly turning from a bright red to a less angrier pink.

"don't worry, it's only 50p, it was my pleasure honestly", harry smiled back to her, before leaving the shop, holding the door open for the girl on his way out.

he knew what it was like to run out of something essential, and have to wait ages to afford it.

he lit up a cigarette and walked the short distance home, feeling accomplished.
