harry was on his way home from school when he over took an elderly man on the path, it made him feel bad speeding past him while he was stuck walking in slow motion.

he slowed himself down and took a deep breathe.

"good afternoon, lovely day isn't it"

"yes son it is, where are you headed?"

they spoke until they had to go in different directions, harry learned that his name was dennis, his wife had recently died from lung cancer and he was feeling very lonely. harry promised he'd try to cut down on smoking for him.

he helped dennis carry his bag, and even though his legs hurt from walking so slow, he was keeping someone company. somebody needed him.

they crossed the road together, as harry was explaining what he was doing in school and how much he loved his best friend louis. but he took the bus home so harry had to walk alone everyday.

dennis gave him advice about getting a job, and told a few of his own old stories.

seeing his face light up at the memories made harry feel full inside. it made him smile back, eyes crinkling at the sides, teeth showing.

"thankyou son, talking to someone like you has made the world of difference to me"

"it was a pleasure sir, thankyou for the advice and i hope to see you soon"

when they went their separate ways, harry knew he'd be thinking about dennis a lot, they both made a big impact on each other's lives, just from walking a short way together.
