5 months earlier…
Vera stood outside an exclusive hotel in Bucharest and adjusted her disguise: a long brown-haired wig, which was tied back, and a grotesque, grey maid’s uniform, which she ‘borrowed’. Vanessa rounded the corner, and approached Vera in the same disguise but with a boring dirty blond wig.
“Vanny, what the hell took you so long?” demanded Vera. “The party is already happening!”
“I know”, responded Vanessa patiently. “I had to go and get us each brown contact lens. Our ex stepsister will be at the party and I don’t want them recognizing one of us”. Looking at her sister’s grey eyes and above, Vanessa got annoyed, “Oh my god, did you tweeze your brows? We’re supposed to be plain Bulgarian maids with no sense of fashion!”
“But I couldn’t help it”, exclaimed Vera and snatched the contacts out of her sister’s hand. After putting on the contacts, and nervously adjusting her wig, making sure it covered her own red bob, she waited for her sister to recite the plan.
“Ok, so it’s one of Lucius’ cousin’s birthday party…I think his name is Ramus”, Vanessa started as she put on her contacts and made sure the blond wig covered her long red mane. “It’s 11:06 pm on my clock, fix yours”.
Resetting her watch, Vera recited, “I’ll get the gear and you fix the computers and I’ll meet you in ten. Take the elevator to the suite and say that we were sent to clean someone’s vomit etc. I’ll watch the north end. What time does Val wants us back?”
“Don’t know. She just told us to take care”, answered Vanessa and together they entered the hotel through the maids’ door. While Vanessa hurried to the customer service computer, Vera looked for a maid’s trolley. Upon finding one, she removed the rubbish, replaced the lining and carefully placed her gear inside before covering it with another liner and scrunched up paper towels.
Despite Vanessa’s reassurance that it was an in-look-and-out mission, Vera didn’t think being too careful was a crime and made sure she packed both their stakes. She pushed the trolley to the elevator and waited for her sister. Vanessa rounded the corner after five minutes and to Vera’s delight, flashed the key to suite 2608 with glee.
Together, the sisters made their way to the top floor and towards the room with booming music and two butch vampires outside: Vladonov’s guards.
One of the guards held out his hand for identifications, which the sisters provided, while the other questioned why they were there.
“Err…ve clean er...” answered Vera with an accent and then made hand gestures to her mouth to emphasize ‘vomit’. Vanessa held up clean bed sheets and pillowcase and added, “Change bed”.
Satisfied, the guards ushered the twins into the room and luckily for the women, the door closed immediately after them. Because if the guards followed, they would have seen the utter surprise on the twins’ faces, which quickly morphed into pure hatred and disgust. If there existed places called Sodom and Gomorrah, it would’ve been the main room of the suite. Waitresses in disappearing G-strings and heels walked around the main serving drinks, while dancers with barely much on danced on chairs, tables and Vladonov men.
Vanessa quickly moved aside as a Vladonov soldier rolled over the floor with a dancer, doing something that the twins did not stop to analyse but knew that the girl’s only garment laid a metre away from the couple. Observing the room, they were glad that it was littered with chip packets and broken glasses and proceed to clean up very slowly while spying on the room for a certain person.
Bending down to sweep up some broken glass, Vera spied on the people at the balcony. It was Cezar in nothing but a towel around his waist between two busty women. The thin vampire took a draught of his Cuban cigar and then exhaled the smoke on the blonde woman’s face next to him. She laughed and played with the edge of his towel, while the other blonde greeted him with her intimate kisses on his neck. Vera felt sick at the display. Suddenly, Vanessa knelt down next to Vera and whispered, “He’s in the Jacuzzi to the north”.
