"It's my turn to ask you something again."
"I wasn't aware we were going back and forth."
"We are."
I don't know what made me tell him my whole life story, or why I'm still talking to him. I've talked more to Austin Wheeler in 10 minutes than I have anyone in a long time. Something about him just... I can't describe it.
"Okay, shoot"
I hadn't thought through what to ask him, I just didn't want it to get too quiet yet.
"What was your first impression of me?" I've always wanted to know what people think of me, call it stupid, but I don't like to be left in the dark.
"Honestly?" He smiled.
"Honestly."
He smiled wider, "Honestly it was somewhere along the lines of 'Holy shit, this will be the girl that kills me!'"
"Seriously?" That's a new one
"Yeah, you have this, way of looking at everyone that suggests you will kill them given the slightest motivation or opportunity. I was terrified."
"And do you still think that?" Call it nuts, but that's one description I don't mind.
"I'm not sure. You're a tough one to crack, Taylor Byrd."
Maybe I am. But maybe I don't have to be all the time.
"So are you, but now it's your turn to ask a question."
Just as he opened his mouth, disaster struck.
