I can't believe that school is already here. Back to the craziness that is completing assignments, studying for tests, and balancing a part-time job. When I was younger, I had average grades. I could have done better if I bothered to care but to me, school didn't seem like the most important thing in the world. It probably helped that my parents didn't pressure me. To them, school was important but they trusted me enough to find my own path whether it be through attending college, university, or skipping school altogether. I know that is not the case for everyone and I definitely don't think my parents are better because they let me do whatever I want. In fact, sometimes when I was younger, I wished my parents would yell at me. I don't want to say that I'm spoiled but I definitely didn't hear the word "no" a lot. I remember getting invited to this birthday/slumber party at Kim's house. I really didn't want to go but I also needed a reason why I couldn't go. Before I asked my parents, I told them how Kim's parents wouldn't be there and other lies that could aim at convincing them this would not be an appropriate party to go to. Despite this, they still said yes and even called Kim's mom asking where she was going on the weekend. As a child, I didn't know what to do with myself because I had so much choice. Maybe it had to do with growing up in a small town or maybe it had to with that fact that I am an only child. I love my parents but I almost didn't make it through school due to my laid back attitude. It wasn't till grade 12 where I stepped up my game. Even then I wasn't sure I was going to get accepted. Despite it all, here I am on a Tuesday morning getting ready for the first day of my third year at McMaster for Kinesiology.

The walk to school was short. Our house was about 10 minutes away. I wore my hair up in a ponytail and had on jean shorts with a white tank top. My first class is Exploring Movement and Posture. That should be fun even though I know it is going to be a really long class.

DING!

Leo: Have a good first day! I'm heading to work. Go learn about those body things.

Denise: Body things??? You are firefighter shouldn't you know the technical term. But thanks you have a good day too doing the whole life saving thing ;P

It has been a week since I got Leo 's number and we have been talking ever since. It has been weird as I didn't think I would enjoy talking to someone this much. I found out a lot about him as well. He is Columbian and is a firefighter at one of the local stations in Hamilton. He lives near campus because his two roommates are still in school. Not to mention, he loves exercising hence why he was at the gym. Well I guess that is all I know about him so maybe it's not a lot. Which is weird thinking that I have been talking to him straight non-stop and that is all I know. I don't know what we are at this moment or if we are anything to each other than just texting buddies. All I know is when I read a text from him it always make me smile. It's normally something stupid like him saying the word "body things" but it was innocently cute.

Class finally finishes and its around 12:30 pm. Just in time for the lunch rush. I go to reach for the phone and I see I have a notification.

Venus: I have an hour for lunch. Want to meet up at our secret location?

Denise: Yeah sure. Will be there in a second.

I head to the basement of the university and round a corner. Our table is still in the same place Venus put it a year ago. The university was always busy and it can be hard finding spots to eat and do some work. One day, Venus got fed up and dragged a table from a nearby cafeteria and moved it to this small corner at the very back of the basement. This spot is perfect as it wasn't near any lecture halls so for the most part it was secret and not many people are around. Except for this one time when some guy was sitting there doing some work. I took a seat and got out my laptop so I could start to look at all the outlines and upcoming assignments that I would soon have to complete. I begin reading when I hear a loud sigh, knowing full well that it was Venus.
