D E V I N
"I had a sister and you didn't tell me for a whole year!"
"Devin, please. You have to understand I was only trying to protect you. I had no idea what happened to you and your mother after that night. Graizen and I were too young. My father told your mother to disappear, so that the man would never find you two again."
"What happened to Freya? What happened after the man took her when she was born?" I demanded, a sob raking through me. Jax continued to hold my wrists in his hands. He was supporting all of my weight as I sobbed.
"That man was your Father. He took Freya away and raised her with her two brothers. She grew up and was raised to be gifted. Her and her brothers resented their father, he was demented. He didn't use his gifted powers for the greater good. He murdered innocent lives, to gain power." Jax said to me, his eyes never leaving mine.
"What happened to him? My father?" I questioned. I wasn't surprised the man was my father. I knew he would be in this story, somehow.
"Freya and her brothers had enough. They killed him. They killed him and moved here, for safety. That's when I met Freya. They moved here because we only use our powers for good, and to protect."
I was trying to process all the information he said to me. I didn't feel an ounce of loss over hearing that my father was dead. How can one lose something they never had?
"Why me? Why did they kill Freya when they realized she wasn't me?"
"Freya and her brothers faked their death when they killed their father. Their city would never let them free if they knew the death of their leader was because of them. After we got married, word spread. They assumed Freya was dead, and that they had finally found you. Her twin. Nobody had ever heard about you since your mom escaped your father, rumor had spread that you two had died and Freya was the only one to survive."
This wasn't making sense. None of this makes sense.
"That doesn't answer my question. Why am I special? Why kill her if she's my twin and just as important as I supposedly am?"
Jax took a deep breath. "Your mother was a human, and your father wasn't. When a human and someone who is gifted pro-create, a source is created."
I raised my eyebrows in confusion. "A source?"
"That's what they call it. Gifted ones and humans rarely mix. But when they do, a balance must be created. That balance was you. You aren't exactly gifted, but you aren't exactly human either. You're like a power source. We can drain power from you, which makes us stronger. You're almost like a charger, for our powers. Remember how Rayner and Ryker told you we had to work to keep our powers strong? With you, gifted ones wouldn't have to do that. They could just drain you and charge their powers."
"This is too much." I breathed out. I had a feeling this was only the beginning of the story. "Why didn't Freya have the same thing I did?"
"When gifted ones and humans mate, the curse only goes to one of the twins. The other one is just human their whole lives. Since Freya was human, and everyone thought you had died, it was assumed that the curse never existed."
"But I didn't die. Your father saved me."
Jax nodded. "And when Freya and I announced our wedding, everyone thought she was the lost twin. That she was you."
