Chapter X

Luffy woke up in the uncomfortable infirmary bed. He had a headache, so he raised himself up to put his hand on the ache. When he cracked one eye open, it was black. Luffy's hand dropped on the mattress. He couldn't see anything at all. Just black. What the fuck is going on with him?

"I see you're finally awake." The deep voice said from Luffy's right side. It was Law. "Cora- san found you on our porch this morning. You had fainted and your eyes were rolled up into the back of your head like you'd fucking died. How the fuck did you get there?" Law asked, his voice was laced with anger and Luffy simply shrugged at him. His face expressionless. Law hummed and walked out of the room in silence and closed the door behind him. Luffy sat alone in the bed, thinking. He hated to think, it had always been difficult for him.

'I know I went outside. I know I could see. Why did I faint? I felt fine before I unlocked the door. What's going on?'

Law opened the infirmary again and Sanji and Zoro were with him.

"Sup Luffy, how're you feeling?" Zoro asked and Luffy shrugged. He didn't feel like talking, he wanted to think.

"He escaped somehow last night. Fainted on our front porch." Law said and Sanji and Zoro started asking him many questions.

"Did he hurt himself? Is he gonna be fine? Is the healing process gonna take longer now?"

"Woah calm down! No, he didn't hurt himself. He's fine. Surprisingly." Law explained and the two calmed down a little. Luffy bit his lip, he felt more like a burden now. He should leave and never come back. Disappear.

That would be the best for everyone.

Sanji walked out after a while of talking and started to cook breakfast while Zoro was staying with Law and Luffy, telling them how he and Sanji got their asses kicked by their families.

"Yeah, we weren't allowed to leave our houses until now, sorry Luffy." Zoro apologized and Luffy gave him a faint smile.

"No... worries." He said and Zoro sighed out and smiled back.

"Oh, by the way, Trafalgar. How's it going with the healing?" Zoro suddenly asked and Luffy looked down at the mattress as the two talked about his condition.

"His wounds should be healed in maybe some months or so, don't worry. I'll tell you and Sanji when he's fine. We're one of the best doctors in the North." Law told him and Zoro gave him a pat on the shoulder, smiling big time.

"Thanks for taking care of him for us!"

"Oi, Marimo! The fuck you wanna eat?" Sanji suddenly yelled from the kitchen and Zoro got up to walk there, already roaring; "The fuck you call me you curly brow?!". Law chuckled and then noticed how quiet Luffy was.

"How are you feeling?" He asked and Luffy once again shrugged, making Law a little worried. "You hungry?"

"I guess..." Luffy mumbled back and Law sat down on the chair beside Luffy.

"Wanna talk about it?"

"No. Nothing to talk about..." Luffy said and Law hummed at the answer. It got quiet, but Law didn't leave. The only sound right now was Luffy's heart monitor that Law had plugged in again since they found him on the ground and the screaming of the two idiots in the kitchen. Law swiped his thumb on his phone, reading some news on the kidnappings. There hasn't been an update on it, though it had only been 3 days since Luffy was found.

Law suddenly stopped on one page in the news. Poison gas had been found on many of the corpses outside and inside the basement room where the kids were kept. It didn't burn down apparently. The marines had found a lot of old poison on the chains and mostly the metal gag. Deadly poison.

'That's the gag Mugiwara- ya had in his mouth, He should've been dead a long time ago if he had been drinking poison. How the fuck...?'

"Heya, Luffy! Breakfast is served!" Sanji happily exclaimed as he walked in with a plate of food. Luffy brightened up again and when Sanji put the plate down Luffy started to eat.

Law excused himself from the room and asked that Sanji and Zoro would come with him.

"We'll be back soon." He said to the eating Luffy who hummed as an answer.

"Yo, what's up? You seem pale." Sanji asked and Law told them about the poison and Sanji gasped in shock whilst Zoro just laughed.

"What's so funny you idiot?" Sanji asked as Zoro kept laughing.

"I know it sounds weird, but Luffy's immune against poison. He always has been. That's why he never gets sick too, his immune system is stronger than most." Zoro explained and the two stared at him in shock.

"True, he has never been sick." Sanji mumbled. "But neither have you." He said and Zoro shrugged.

"I'm too strong for it I guess." Zoro laughed out and Law just stared at them in confusion. The three later walked back into the infirmary and noticed Luffy had fallen asleep with the empty tray on the floor. Sanji huffed a laugh and took the tray to wash it in the kitchen. Zoro and Law went with him, closing the door behind them.

Luffy woke up in the middle of the night. He had been sleeping the rest of the day apparently. Luffy could once again see his room, it was 00:30am. Luffy crawled on the bed to get to his straw hat and then tried to get up on the floor. He was still very unsteady but managed to stand. Luffy slowly sneaked around his room toward the door and slowly opened it. Dark. Good, he hopefully wouldn't get caught. Luffy slowly made his way to the front door. No one was on the couch now. Luffy sighed out in relief. He stood in front of the front door, unlocked it and opened it. When he stepped out on the porch, he quietly closed the door behind him.

'Is there a key somewhere here?' Luffy thought to himself and searched the porch for it. He found it in a crack above the door. He locked the door behind him and put it back.

'Sorry.'

Luffy walked slow, unsteady steps on the sidewalk, not looking back.

He wasn't going to be a burden to them anymore.

He just wanted to go home.
