Chapter one. We will pull through

Ring! Ring!! Ring!!!
My eyes flew open and I roll to the other side of the bed and click the alarm off.
Its just 5am why is this freaking alarm going off now?? I mentally ask myself
OMG I remember last night, how I got a text for Mac Donalds. They asked me to start my early morning shift at the coffee stand today
I quickly got out of bed and flew into the shower taking the fastest shower ever in my life I had to be at Mc Donalds by 6am before then I had to prepare my siblings for school.
I put on a black tight jeans and a blue T shirt and I threw my school uniform and every other thing I needed in my school bag then headed out of my room.

And just as I stepped out Vera! Vera!!! My younger brother Dave yells
I quickly climbed down the stairs and entered Dads room. Since Dad went to prison he never stayed in his room but prefers Dads bedroom downstairs even if it wasn't convinient for him he stayed there anyways. The room doesn't have a heater.

I entered the room and switched on the light, woke Molly up and hurried them to the bathroom and they had their bath just then I looked at the antique clock in Dads room WTF its 5:45

I rushed Dave and Molly clothes on them
I can't be late on my first day I mentally screamed at my self
How the fuck I'm going to get them to school and get to Mac Donalds before 6am I thought tears almost pouring out of my eyes

Just then I heard the door bell
I went downstairs and opened the door it was Max
Hey Vera he says smiling
Hey I replied wearily

what you up to? He asked

I need to be at Mac Donalds by 6am and I need to get them to school first I said pointing to Dave and Molly

Well I can help you get them to school so you better start running he said smiling

It felt like a thorn had been removed from my chest I grabbed my bag quickly and headed for the front door
Max!! I screamed walking through the garden at the front of my house thank you very much, see you in school. I blew him a kiss

Off I went for my morning shift. My days are usually long and boring I'll get to spend my early mornings at Mac Donalds from there to school after school I work at Mia's chicken grills and then I go for my serving duty at Diganga steak joint the best part of my day is in the night when I get to spend time with my siblings well until dad comes back

Mac Donalds sure does have a lot of customers they just keep rolling in and I keep pouring them coffee forgetting to even look at their faces

Hey your time's up!! The guy beside me shouted
Oh wow that was fast I thought
Do you know any place where I can get changed? I asked him
Go round to the back there's a toilet there careful of perverts though he warned
Okay I nodded and off I went round to the back like he said. I got changed and look at my watch its 7:45 my school is a ten minutes walk so I guess I still have five minutes I thought of buying a doughnut over the counter inside but shut the thought out after seeing the crowd queuing for it
I decided to ask my partner his name then

Hey I said

Hey he answered

I'm Vera

Hey Vera. uhm you're new here right?

Yeah first day I smiled

Oh okay nice name by the way

Yeah thanks I've got to go see you tomorrow mike
I said leaving

Yeah have a nice day he said

You too I replied almost behind the shop

I was barely at the school gate when I saw Max. I screamed his name
Babe!! he said
Hey how was your night? I said
Good. Yours? He asked
Fine I answered
Thanks for getting my siblings to school you are such a life saver I beamed
Hey don't mention, after all you're my best friend

Yeah sure but thanks anyways

We'd better get running before Mrs Pullman whips our asses Max said laughing

Mrs Pullmans class is boring as usual she just rants and rants which makes me lost in thought
I remember when my dad was around and everything seemed like it was going to be happily ever after. He drove us to school every morning and we never felt that our mum died so tragically unlike now that I feel it every minute. Everything seemed so easy and life was so sweet.

I wish I could go back to that time when I could wake up in a day and not have to think of how I'll combine my three part time jobs with my studies and I won't have to think of what to tell Molly when she asks after Dad, and I hate to think of what people would say when they hear that I am Vera Collins. I don't want to be the daughter of a fraudster, a man that lied and took other peoples money as his I don't want to be any of this...

Knock knock knock
I heard Mrs Pullmans whip on my desk
Hello Miss Collins, looks like you have a lot to think about huh?
Uhmmm I'm sorry Mrs Pullman I said absentmindedly
If you want to be lost in thought because of your family's problems that shouldn't be in my class she shouted. You'd better leave she added looking like Cinderellas step mother
I stood up and packed my books her words hurt me too much and I don't want to be anywhere near her right now I'd better leave this fucking class

I got to the base ball court and took a seat
Mrs Pullmans words rings in my brain again "if you want to be lost in thought because of your family's problems" Do we really have a problem?? I asked myself
No we do not have a problem!! We are just a normal family whose father got framed for embezzlement, we have always had each others back and this is not going to bring the Collins down in any way we stand strong as always until Dad comes back I pacified myself

I then felt a hand on my shoulders I looked up and found Max he is just so sweet always right there when I needed him. he is more of family than a best friend thank goodness I have him if not I wouldn't have made it this far

Babe! you want a drink he says handing me a bottle of fruit juice and a Mac Donalds doughnut
OMG how did he know I craved that he is such a darling
Don't mind Mrs Pullman he tries to console me
No problem I answered. Putting almost half of the doughnut in my mouth once
This doughnut has done more consoling than you'd ever do Max I said laughing

He laughed back

We heard some noise on our left toward the school field and we both looked at where the noise came from and there he is the notorious and annoyingly handsome SS

Heat churns in my stomach I wish I never meet him
