Gerard is leaving the B&B when a man blocks his path.
Mike doesn't look too happy to see him. He only says, "Queen wants to see you."
Gerard follows him. Into a black Limousine parked in a nearby parking lot.
His ex Boss is already inside the car. She really resembles Halleberry, the actress. Mid forty Afro American woman. Her name is Helena Bolzinky. Or at least the world knows her by that name. Not sure if that was her real name or not.
Mike and Gerard always call her Queen behind her back. She is one bossy woman, like the legendary Queen, Helen of Troy.
Her brown eyes are staring him down. As if Gerard's one annoying pest.
Gerard asks, "Are you well?"
"Skip the chit-chat. When are you coming back?"
"I quit."
"I never signed your resignation. You're just on temporarily leave. Like him."
She meant Mike.
Gerard stares to his friend who had remained outside the car. Mike said Queen had approved their resignation. Shouldn't trust an agent, one lied too easily.
Helena says, "M16 asked our help. One rogue BND agent has joined the terrorists in bombing London. I believe you know agent Hanks Rutzgeld?"
She knows exactly why Gerard hates that man. Because he killed Chrissy.
Gerard inhales a deep breath.
It's a very tempting offer. He still couldn't find any job he likes so far. One who gave him a purpose in life. Working as a shopkeeper would bored him to death. No adrenaline rush. No challenge.
Gerard says firmly, "I quit, Ma'am."
He opens the door and leaves the car.
Helena only says, "Contact Mike if you changed your mind."
The Limo leaves the parking lot.
A punch to Mike's jaw is the first thing he did when he saw him again.
"Yeow! Guess I deserved that..."
Mike is rubbing his jaws.
Gerard scolds him, "You lied to me! You said we were free man!"
"Gerry, folks like us won't get off the hook so easily. Especially you. You think Queen would let her best agent go? Just like that?"
Gerard doesn't reply him. He's so angry he could kill someone right now. Doesn't want to kill Mike. The guy is a jerk. But he's the closest thing as a friend he ever had.
He punches a nearby wall.
His life felt dull after he left CIA.
(Maybe it's time to go back. A guy has to work for a living. I really missed the adrenaline rush. The hunt. The satisfied feeling after completing a dangerous mission. But...)
He closes his eyes. In his mind, he could see Nina.
(What about her?)
If he joined back CIA, he would be throwing his chance with her.
The woman he loves. More than anything in the world.
*****
Nina is heading home from work. It has been a week. Londoners have finally calmed down after the bombing.
Hopefully things would return back to normal soon.
Suddenly her phone rings. From unknown number. She picks it up.
