"Hey Di" Zoe squealed and ran over to give me a big hug. I had been at this school only a few hours and I already had two nicknames. Not gonna lie, I liked reddo better than Di but I wasn't sure whether that was just because Joe had called me Reddo or because I genuinely liked it more.
"How's your first day at school going?" She asked me.
"It's going good I guess" I shrugged. "How was the dentist?"
"Crap as usual" Zoe sighed. "I don't need any extra work done but I just hate the dentist."
"At least you don't have to go for another 6 months" I slung my arm around her shoulder as we began to walk down to lunch.
"Do you wanna come to mine after school?" She asked.
"Sure" I replied
"Just watch out for my little brother. He's an absolute asshole. He acts all tough at school but in reality he likes going out with his best friend and playing army" Zoe warned. I giggled.
We walked back to Zoe's after school. Joe and Caspar were walking on the opposite side of the street. They were talking excitably. They looked so different from the people I knew from school. Joe and Caspar soon started having a running race and Zoe and I lost sight of them. We reached Zoe's house five minutes later and went to sit in her bedroom. We just had a right laugh.
"Zoe?" A males voice called after around an hour. Zoe rolled her eyes before replying.
"Yeah?" She shouted back. Whoever was calling her was downstairs so they had to yell.
"Caspar left mouse traps all over the garden and I stood on one. Then fell in ten so can you come help me?"
"He's friends with Caspar?" I asked Zoe.
"Everyone is. He's such a nice guy. He has his tough guy image at school but honestly he's so nice."
I wondered what parallel universe Zoe must be living in to find Caspar nice.
"I have a friend around" Zoe called downstairs to her brother.
"Well can she help as well because I'm in plenty of flipping pain here?"
"We're busy" Zoe said and turned back to me and regained the flow of our previous conversation with ease.
"ZOEEEEE. CASPARS SHOOTING AT ME NOW. PLEASE HELP ME. AHHHHHH" The voice from downstairs yelled again.
"Is he alright?" I asked, slightly scared.
"He'll be fine" Zoe flicked her hand.
I didn't leave Zoe's until midnight. I walked quickly home.
"Where have you been?" My dad boomed as I stepped through the door.
"At a friends" I stood stock still.
"You could have told me" My dad yelled.
"I sent you a message" I looked up confused.
"I didn't get one" He shouted. I looked to my left and spotter my older brother Andrew smirking at me.
"You deleted it, didn't you?" I said quietly to him.
"Maybeeeee" he grinned.
"Andrew! You're grounded! Dianne, you made me so worried" My dad pulled me in and hugged me. "I'm sorry I shouted at you Dot. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. But please don't come back so late next time."
"I promise I won't."
Joe
"Hey Reddo" I grinned at her as she walked into maths.
"Hey Suggy" She said back."Suggy?" I asked as she sat beside me.
"It's your new nickname now. Forget Joe. You're Suggy" She said it so seriously that I burst out laughing.
"You crack me up Dianne" I laughed.
"It's Reddo to you Suggy" She replied, causing us both to burst into fits of giggles. I looked down at my work. What the heck was a trinomial?
"Are you stuck?" Dianne asked.
"Yep" I threw my pencil down in disgust. Dianne giggled.
"They're not that hard. I'll teach you." She moved her seat closer to mine so that our arms were touching. Sparks ran through where our arms met. At least that's what it felt like. She began explaining whilst I listened with rapt attention.
Soon Dianne and I were able to work together. We had just as much laughs as we did just as many sums as the rest of the class completed. My next lesson was history, in which Dianne was in my class. I walked up with Caspar and Jack, Dianne tagging along behind us. I had to listen to Jack and Caspar teasing Dianne the whole lesson. They sat either side of her and I sat on the other side of the room so I could do nothing.
Dianne
A text came in. I snuck a look at the teacher. He was busy writing on the board. I slipped my phone out of my blazer pocket .
Unknown number: You good?
Me:who is this?
Unknown number: who d'ya think Reddo?
I glanced over at Joe. He was texting under the table.
Me:Joe?
Unknown number: yep.
I quickly saved joes name in my contacts. I couldn't believe that I actually had Joe Suggs number.
Me: why wouldn't I be good?
Joe:because I can hear what Caspar and Jack are saying.
Me: I'm fine. I'm just ignoring them. How did u get my number?
Joe: Zoe gave it to me.
My heart dropped like a stone. Joe must be really close to Zoe.
Me: you two must be close.
Joe: the closest. We grew apart a few years ago but we have been getting on really well again recently. All thanks to you really. Zoe really likes you. She thinks very highly of you.
Me:How long have you and Zoe known eachother.
Joe: Since I was born? I have a feeling that you're missing a trick here.
Me: is Zoe really as amazing as she comes across as?
Joe: she's the best. So funny and supportive. Rather like you.
Me: do you love her?
Joe: Dianne?
Me:it's a genuine question.
Joe:I feel like you are missing something. Like a piece to mine and Zoe's relationship that is rather important. Of course I love her. It would be weird not to.
Me: I've never heard her mention you.
I was wondering how I could get Joe to get annoyed at Zoe. I didn't want them to fall out or anything but more just wanted to see what he would say if he found out that Zoe was pretending that he didn't exist. He had literally just admitted he that he loved her and I was screaming inside.
Joe: I think she's embarrassed of me tbh.
Me: but u said that u were close.
Joe: we are?
Me: then why hasn't she mentioned you.
Joe: idk you've only known her a day. She probably just doesn't tell you about creepy relations first time you meet her, encase it puts you off.
Me:but if she's your girlfriend then surely she should have told me that? Or you would have?
I saw Joe choke on nothing and begin hysterically laughing.
"Joseph?" the teacher snapped from the front.
"Yes Mr?" Joe giggled. His whole body racking from laughing.
