I was so furious with him. How could he do something like this to me? He told me that he loved me and promised that he would look after me! And then that bastard decides to go and do something like this! I was never going to forgive him! I mean, who the hell does something like that, huh?
I stormed up the stairs and down the hallway, ignoring the petrified looks from the people around me. Once I found the room I was looking for, I slammed the door open and glared at the bastard lying on the white bed before me.
"Jesse!" he smiled, though I could see he was extremely worried. "How are you going?"
"You bastard," I growled in a low, very threatening tone. "I'm never going to forgive you!"
"Calm down!" he squeaked as I suddenly appeared next to him.
"You are such an idiot Jace! I can't believe you would do something like this to me!" I snapped.
He cowered under my gaze.
"Please! I'm sorry! I was careless! I won't do it again!" he cried.
"Stop scaring him!" a woman shrieked from the door.
My head whipped in the direction and the instant I saw who it was, I was the one who was scared.
"M-mother," I stammered.
"How dare you treat your injured brother like that Jesse! I thought better of you!" she snapped, throwing her handbag at me.
It smashed me in the face, making me fall back into the chair behind me in a daze.
"Mum! Are you trying to kill her?" Jace cried.
"Sweetheart, just relax, your sister deserves it," she said, her dark brown eyes suddenly kind.
And then she looked back at me and her whole motherly face was swapped with that of the devil.
"Don't you?" she snapped at me.
Yes, this was my family. My brother, Jace, and I were identical twins. We both had the same shade of dark green eyes and black hair. We were also the exact same height and our voices were similar too, despite the fact that we were different genders. Even the doctors couldn't explain how we were so much alike, considering identical twins were meant to be, well, identical in every way. But, somehow, we managed to become a boy and a girl. The doctors gave up and claimed it to be a miracle or something.
Despite being siblings, our mother had sent us to two entirely different schools; Jace to an all boys school, and myself to an all girls school. Ah yes; my devil mother. She didn't hate me, in fact, she loved me more than anyone. And that's why she was so angry at me all the time; because I wasn't living up to her expectations as her only daughter. She wanted me to be like her; beautiful, dainty (around others) and basically like a princess. Like hell that was going to happen...
My father, he had died when we were little. He was run over by a car in a hit and run accident.
Sadly, the police never found the killer.
"Mum, can you leave Jesse and I alone for a bit? I want to talk to her about something important," Jace pleaded, pulling possibly the most amazing puppy eyes on our mother. And, sure enough, she fell for it.
"Yes of course sweetheart!" she sobbed, hugging Jace tightly, obviously causing him pain.
She quickly released him and smiled apologetically before turning to me.
"Don't hurt your bother," she snapped before leaving the room.
Both my brother and I let out a deep sigh once the door was closed. I looked over at Jace and half smiled.
"You're such an idiot, getting into a car crash," I said.
He laughed softly.
"Yeah, but, in my defense, the traffic lights were messed up," he said.
I looked over his body and winced at what I saw. His right leg was in a plaster, as well as his right arm. His forehead and chest were thoroughly bandaged and he had thousands of scratches and bruises all over his body.
"I knew something was wrong the instant it happened you know," I said, looking down and clasping my hands in my lap. "It was a few minutes after you left home, and for an instant, my whole body exploded in pain. It left so quickly, I didn't know what had happened; then I worried that you had died. But, once I calmed down, I knew you weren't and that you were just knocked out, but I also knew you were horribly injured," I explained.
"Jesse, I'm really sorry," he said, holding out his hand to me.
I took it and squeezed gently.
"It's ok. I'm just glad your still alive," I smiled, "So what was it you wanted to talk to me about?"
"Well, about that," he laughed nervously. "You know how I was accepted into that all boys academy after summer break?"
"Yes..." I replied, feeling something suspicious about this conversation.
"Well, I was thinking, you know how you want to be a professional athlete?" he asked, managing to avoid my eyes.
"Yes," I replied again.
"Yeah, so, really, you don't have to finish the next two years at school right? You can just join local clubs and work your way up from there!"
There was something very peculiar about this conversation...
"What are you getting at Jace?" I asked rather coldly.
"Considering I'm going to be stuck here for possibly up to three months, which will be just a whole term," he began explaining. "And since we look so much alike, I was wondering, if, um, you would fill in for me at the academy for the first term?"
No. Bloody. Way.
