“Juliet, what are you saying?” I asked, laughing hoarsely.
“I’m saying, we can’t go out anymore,” she said as she choked back a sob.
“But, why not? I know I haven’t talked to you much recently,” I began to desperately explain.
“It’s not what you’ve done at all!” she exclaimed. “It really isn’t!”
“What else could it be?” I asked.
“It’s… S-something’s come up, and I just can’t see you anymore,” she sobbed.
“What could possibly come up that causes something like this?” I pleaded.
“Please, it’s hard enough as it is,” she whispered. “I won’t be speaking with you again,”
“Juliet, please, wait!” I blurted, but I was too late.
She had already hung up.
I stared at my phone in shock for what felt like hours. Did that really just happen? And if it did; why did it happen? I replayed the conversation over in my head over and over again, as though I was trying to convince myself that it really did happen.
But being as stubborn as I was, I wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
I punched in Juliet’s number and held the phone up against my ear; the ringing causing daggers to drive their way through my chest.
“Hello,”
“Juliet! Can’t we just-,”
“This is Juliet; I’m unable to reach my phone right now, so please leave a message and I’ll get right back to you!”
Beep.
I hesitantly hung up and collapsed to the ground.
“Jace, what’s wrong?” Blake exclaimed, reaching down to help me up.
“Juliet broke up with me,” I explained in disbelief.
“She what?!” Blake replied, aghast.
“Yeah,” I laughed hoarsely. “Hard to believe, isn’t it?”
“Shit man, are you alright?” Jeremiah asked, suddenly appearing at the door.
“His girlfriend just broke up with him,” Blake explained in a hushed tone.
“Juliet?!” Jeremiah gasped. “No way!”
“Shh!” Blake barked. “It’s hard enough for him as it is!”
Abruptly, I stood up; determination covering my features. I wasn’t going to let this go until I had the answer I needed. In a flash, I had pushed in another number; pressing my phone to my ear. They picked up almost instantly.
“How may I be of service?” they asked.
“Kalem, I need you to do something for me,” I said.
“What would that be?” he replied.
“I trust you’ll be able to do this,” I said. “It’s important,”

Juliet’s POV
I was awoken by the sound of stones hitting my bedroom window from outside. I groaned in annoyance before I lifted my tired body up; swinging my legs over my bed and standing. Sluggishly, I made my way over to the window; rubbing the sleep from my eyes as I did.
