A/n: To be honest with you all I felt a little meh writing this chapter... I hope it's good ;-;
"So... do you think it's possible?"
Caitlin stood with Kaldur in one of the training rooms at the cave. She'd been wanting to ask him about the potential of her magical abilities ever since her first conversation with Zatanna a little less than a month ago, but after the whole "Train For Failure" disaster, and then everything that happened with Harm, it was safe to say she'd been a little distracted.
The magic gifted to her people was complex, and of course, since she was only five years old when she left, she hadn't been taught all that much about everything that it could do. It was difficult, not really having anyone to learn from. It always made her feel a little homesick. She vaguely remembered watching her older brother Ky come home and practice after school, but of course, she couldn't even begin to picture what exactly he was practicing.
She had so many questions. Were there limits to how many different forms of energies she could transform? Was it possible to transfer multiple bigger forms of energy at a time? How creative could she really get in terms of creating weapons out of light and heat? And most pressing, could she create her own music by singing and transform the energy she created to help restore wounds in others?
Caitlin knew Kaldur had studied magic back in Atlantis, so he was really all she had in terms of a teacher. Of course, asking Kaldur was pretty much a shot in the dark. There was no guarantee he'd studied anything similar to the magic she possessed.
Kaldur took a few moments to think before answering. "Hmm... It is hard to say. The way you have described the magic of your people is new to me. All I can do is give you my educated guess. I am sorry."
"No, no! An educated guess is better than anything I could get on my own. I appreciate your input all the same!"
Kaldur smiled, then continued. "From what I gather, yes, your magical connection to music should indicate an ability to use magic generated from your own music, but you would need to be focused and able to channel your energy into your song. It may take some practice to even get a small result, or it could come naturally to you.
"You must understand, however, that it will feel much different than what you're used to. It seems to me that your being acts as a vessel and a conductor for the musical energy you harness. So far, you have only absorbed this energy into your being or allowed it to pass through you to be transformed into something else. You are inexperienced in summoning the magic from within, so it may exhaust you as you begin to train. Be mindful of this; it could become fatal if used at the wrong time in battle."
Caitlin took in a breath, absorbing the information. Everything Kaldur said made sense, but it was a little intimidating. She hoped he was right, but she knew mastering whatever new set of skills she could would take a lot of work. She hoped she was up for the task.
"Thank you, that's very helpful. Do...do you think you could maybe help me? Like... as I start to learn and see if these things are possible?"
Kaldur smiled again and placed a gentle hand on Caitlin's shoulder. "I'd be happy to. We can start now if you would like."
Caitlin's face lit up. "That would be great! What did you have in mind?"
"Well, if you want to learn how to heal and you believe your song could be transferred to another as healing energy, you should start small. Here..." Kaldur held up his left arm and turned to reveal a decent-sized bruise on his bicep. "I was training with Superboy the other day and was slightly injured. Of course, it hardly bothers me and is not significant, but as I said, if healing is your ambition, I believe small, surface wounds are a good place to start."
