ANNOUNCEMENT: I've been making really decent progress finishing up the book, so I've decided to move up the schedule a bit. I'm releasing this one today, and then I'm gonna move to getting these out biweekly. I only have like 3.5 chapters left to write, so as soon as I get everything finished and finalized I'll just drop the whole book at once. And then once all that's squared away I'll probably drop a separate version of this book but with the (Y/n) stuff instead of a name LMAO no ones said anything yet but I think having both options is just better in general, so look forward to all that!
A/n: This I think is my favorite chapter I've written so far, I hope y'all enjoy :)
I lay hanging upside down off my bed, skipping through a few Apple Music radios to add songs to my many multi-purpose playlists. I had one for rest, one for light and intense healing, one for boosting my energy (I mostly used this one when I had to wake up early for training), one for dance, and one, of course, for battle. The brainwave readers in my battlebuds could access all different music streaming platforms: Apple, Spotify, YouTube, Google Play... you name it. I could organize my many playlists through League-level databases and cross-add as many underground songs and bands as I wanted. It was great, I had the entire Earth-world of music at my grasp. Of course, the one downside was that I couldn't access any music from any other planets, including my own.
There were a few songs I could just barely remember from my brief time spent on my home planet—lullabies and other children's songs used for patching up injuries and cheering us up.
It took some serious brain power, but luckily with M'gann's help, I was able to remember a few full songs from back home. In my own time, I recorded myself humming them in hopes I could eventually fully recreate their beauty with some Earth instruments. As soon as I had them fully recorded I wanted to add them to a few of my refresher playlists. Plus... I really wanted to share a piece of my home with my new teammates.
My phone started to buzz and I saw the incoming call notification slide onto the screen.
I pressed the green answer button and held the phone to my ear.
"Caitie!" Dick cheered from the other side of the line. "You will not believe who I saw at school today! You gotta come over!"
I laughed and said, "Sure! I'll be right there." I hung up the phone and prepared to leave. Star City was on the west coast and Gotham was on the east coast. Dick and I weren't exactly next-door neighbors. That didn't stop me from going over all of the time, however. It was quite simple, really. All I had to do was zeta to the cave, and then out through a Gotham entrance and get to Wayne Manor from there. Of course, there was one nearby so the trip really didn't take that long (I'm pretty sure there's zeta stuff IN the Batcave, but we figured Bruce probably wouldn't appreciate me coming in and out through there so often).
I went up to my room, grabbed my black bag, and stuffed my suit inside (never know when I might need it). I grabbed my own pair of dark sunglasses (just in case there was anyone else at the cave) and set out for the closest zeta.
Once I arrived, Alfred answered and led me to Dick's room.
"You have your suit, right?" Dick said as I walked in.
"Yeah of course, why?"
"I saw Artemis today at Gotham Academy."
"Really? I thought she lived in Star City..." Come to think of it, I never really saw her anywhere in Star City. Strange.
"I'll bet you she's headed to the cave. Wanna go joke around with her."
I laughed, "Sure, why not." Personally, I wasn't exactly one for "messing around" with people, but Dick seemed so excited, how could I say no?
