A/n: All I have to say here is that Gale here throws around a few insults at the bad guys in this chapter... I got them all on the internet and it is so painfully obvious that I did, so apologies in advance (I don't insult people on the daily I'm not good at this ;-; LOL).

I like to think that in her off-time she was like "Hmm how can I get even cooler" and was like "Ah, yes let me get Google insults that's the key" so the cringe is intentional.

She's 13. If you weren't cringey when you were 13 you're lying.

I sat suited up in one of the training rooms at the cave, buds in my ears and music powering my being. I held my hands out in front of me, a target sat untouched a few feet away.

Since the whole Red Family Reunion fiasco, I'd made it my mission to master some form of long-distance combat. Artemis had her bow and Robin had his knives... so I needed something special to me. It took me some time to figure out but I decided I could try to use musical energy to shoot lasers from my hands, feet, or really anywhere else on my body. I'd just have to transform the music from sound to light and heat. Light and heat were two pretty small energy forms so combining them shouldn't have been too hard, it was the control that would pose a challenge.

Of course, I didn't want to produce so much heat that could burn straight through a target if the target was living, but it'd be nice to have that level of heat if I was aiming for something inorganic that may need to be destroyed or broken into. I wanted to be able to shoot small beams, but also have large streams of light if necessary. I wondered what the extent of this power could be. Could I create objects with the light? Imagine having a baton made of pure light. That would be so badass. Obviously, I did live with my kind long enough to be able to really learn about the full capabilities of our treasured gift, so it was up to me to test the limits on my own.

I figured I'd just need to start off small and practice short, non-fatal lasers.

Shouldn't be too difficult...

I played one of my training songs and focused. Breathing in, then out, I felt the music start to flow from my head, through my heart, and into my hand. All at once I willed the energy to morph, and a small, red-tinted light shot from my palm and hit the target, leaving a small stun mark.

I couldn't believe I did it.

I jumped up, whooping and squealing and jumping around in my excitement,. Overreaction? Absolutely, but I went into this not even knowing if what I wanted to do was even possible, so to know I at least had a chance was all I needed.

You can make anything out of a chance.

I was bursting with happiness and pride, I had to tell someone. I decided to see who else was here so that I could share this very important milestone.

"So if Zatara's our babysitter of the week, why is he still here? And why is he eating my snacks?" Wally's voice was the first thing I heard upon entering the main room.

"Recognized—Batman, 02"

"Computer, national news."

I made my way over to the group, a little disappointed. It seemed Batman was about to give us a mission, meaning my news would have to wait.

The holographic computer screen popped up in front of us as Cat Grant reported the situation. "The initial attack was short-lived, but Metropolis was only granted a short reprieve," Images of large, ugly vines sprouting out of the roads and crushing buildings were illuminating from the screen, casting a faint glow on the team's earnest faces. "And despite the intervention of Superman and the Justice League, there seems to be no end in sight."
