Caroline POV

The next day, I returned to school and tried being as casual as ever. Rebekah seemed a bit stressed but wouldn't tell me why and the rest of the Mikaelsons were tense too. I remembered their father had returned home and blamed this mood on the to me unknown man. But I didn't dare ask to confirm my assumption, still having their last reaction in my mind.
Klaus had chatted me up yesterday, apologizing for what I'd had to see but that didn't make it better. I had to admit, the situation with my friends seemed kind of awkward since even Rebekah was all in the clouds and not as relaxed as she was usually. It messed with my head and their stress projected on me.
"Miss Forbes, would you please listen to class?", my teacher critized me when I spaced again.
"Oh, yes, sorry.", I apologized right away but Rebekah was not having it.
"Excuse me? She was paying attention! There's others in this class who give way less interest than her, why don't you give them your crap?", she outraged herself.
"Becks, it's fine.", I tried calming her.
"No! I am not taking another hit! It's not fair!", she growled.
Another hit?
"Miss Mikaelson, maybe you would like to go outside for a second?",.the teacher asked in a strict voice.
"Maybe you would like to stop annoying me!"
The entire class gasped and our teacher was not having any more of this.
"You are suspended!", he yelled angrily. "Now get out of my classroom!"
My friend just rolled her eyes. "Whatever!"
"Becka, wait!", I said quietly when she packed her things. "What has gotten into you?"
"Miss Forbes, if you do not shut up, I will sent you home as well.", the teacher warned and I shot Rebekah a worried look.
"No need for that.", she said, smiling at me. "I'll see you in the break."
She got up and left the room, closing the door behind her with a loud sound.
"Now. Since this is settled, we can return to the American Revolution, shall we?", he cleared his throat loudly. "Can anybody tell me in what period of time it took place?"
Easy, 1775 until 1883, I thought. But I didn't raise my hand. Furthermore, I kept quiet for the rest of the lesson. This was so not what I'd had in mind. But hey, just four more days to go until it was Friday again. Couldn't the time pass faster? After a short ten minute break, we had maths. I was able to sit there for twenty minutes, then I got myself a hall pass and left the classroom, allegedly to go to the toilet. In truth, I searched for Rebekah. When I found her, she was sitting outside, not looking very happy.
"Hey.", I said calmly and sat next to her on the bench.
"Caroline, what are you doing out? Wasn't mathematics way too interesting too leave?", she asked, a bit of irony in her voice.
I chuckled. "Not more essential than checking up on you."
She shot me a gentle smile.
"Say, I know it's non of my business but something's clearly bugging you and I can't seem to shake the feeling, it's your father's sudden return?", I approached her carefully.
I could see her tense up but to my surprise, she just sighed.
"You're right. I did not plan on him being home so soon and he does not exactly have an easy going persona."
I kept quiet, not wanting to push her to say anything she didn't want to.
"It's just, everytime he's home, we're all so stressed. He keeps yelling orders, not letting us do anything he doesn't want and we all just stay in our rooms the entire time. For Klaus, it's the worst. Father has an eye out for him. We can't seem to escape his wrath.", she revealed.
"I'd offer you to come to my place later to calm down but I'm not sure that'll help.", I said and she shook her head.
"Even though I'd really love to come, I don't want my father to know about you. None of us want that. So outside of school, we'll be keeping our distance.", she explained herself.
With a sigh, I nodded understandingly.
"Okay... I guess, it will be pretty lonely.", was the only conclusion I could find to all this.
"You should probably go back inside. The teacher might get suspicious if you don't.", my friend advised me, not knowing what else to say. All this was so messed up.

After school, I returned home, feeling a little isolated from the rest of the world. I misssd my mother and friends and just wanted to feel like I belonged. To not feel so helpless. While preparing myself some food, I took another look at my phone. Klaus' message lingered on the top of my messages and was nagging at me more and more. Shouldn't I at least write him something? However cruel he had been when I'd seen him, he did sound worried and sincerely sorry about everything. Didn't he deserve an answer? I wasn't sure.
Answer? Don't answer? Someone tell me...
Panicking, I just randomly selected a chat to get my thoughts of it all. It was Tyler, thank god.
