I need to turn into a spy, I guess?

Silence. Noone wanted to start talking.
"I'm waiting.", I tapped my fingers onto my crossed arms. "Anyone?"
Instead of answers though, Elena just started crying more. Worried, Bonnie and I rushed to her side, pushing Stefan away since he still seemed all cought up in his Mikaelson drama.
"I hate all this.", my friend sobbed. "Why is everything the way it is? Jeremy gone, Jenna dead... And now all this! Can't we just be normal for a day or so?"
Oh gosh. She'd been through way too much lately.
"She should lay down.", Bonnie suggested, looking at me. I gave her an agreeing nod. "Can you give me the key to your flat? I'll accompany her while you stay sort out this stuff here."
Since that sounded like the best idea for right now, I gave in right away and got out one of my two keys to hand it to her. Thankful, she offered a smile and headed off with a still devastated Elena by her side.
"Damn, all this is seriously fucked up.", Rebekah sighed. I couldn't agree more.
"You should get Marcel out of here and get him fixed up as well.", I said. "Maybe Stefan can help you if he acts up."
My friend shook his head. "Why me? Can't Klaus do that?"
"No, he's got some explaining to do. You just do as Becka tells you to, got it?", I stated strictly. Mumbling to himself, Stefan helped Rebekah take care of Marcel. With a deep breath, I finally released myself of the pressure I'd previously felt. Thank god that was over for now.
Then, I finally turned to face Klaus.
"Now to you."
He avoided to directly look at me. It seemee as if he didn't want to tell me what was going on.
"Why was Marcel acting so weird? He didn't seem like himself at all!", I started but Klaus looked everywhere but to me. "Klaus! Hey! Come on!"
No answer.
"Seriously? The silent treatment? After I decided to give you another chance? You're aware that I am basically bending my morals and going against my friend's requests for you, right? All because I chose to believe there was more to you!", I said annoyed. I was sick of not being told anything! What did he take me for? Some girl that couldn't handle stuff?
"I can't tell you. It's not safe here.", he finally spoke. Really? "I'm sorry, I should follow Rebekah. See you around."
What? No way! I still demanded answers!
"I know we met in Mystic Falls!", was the first thing that came to mind. He immediately stopped in his tracks, his eyes widened. Then, he sprinted to me, pressing one hand on my mouth and dragging me to a corner so fast, I almost stumbled and fell.
"What the hell?", I hissed when he moved his hand away again.
He shushed me by putting one finger on my lips and looked around panicked. After he had assured himself of the fact that we were alone, he turned back to me and eyed me angrily.
"Are you crazy to just ask that so loud?", he growled.
I just frowned at him. "No. Is there a reason, I shouldn't? Maybe something you want to tell me? Why for example, I don't remember meeting you?"
Yet again, he avoided eye contact. "So you didn't remember anything?"
With a sigh, I took his face in my hands and gently forced him to look at me.
"I don't. But I would like to. Unfortunately, you're not really giving me a lot to work with here. There's just a nagging feeling inside of me, telling me I know you all but I can't figure out what exactly happened.", I explained. His features softened a bit, he took my hands off his cheeks and held them in his for just a bit too long to call it 'only getting my hands away'. We looked each other in the eyes and this time, he didn't turn away. What was it with me and bad boys? Or moreover, why did it seem like I couldn't stay away from this specific bad guy?
"I can't tell you about this here, it's too dangerous because we might be seen or heard but I can see that it moves you a lot. Thus, it might be good to talk about all this in private.", he sighed. Was that why he had reacted the way he had before? Because he had been worried I would be in danger if I spoke about all this loudly?
"How about this: if I find a day, where it's easy to sneak away or otherwise safe to meet up, I'll text you and we'll talk. This doesn't mean we can't see each other at all except for that, I won't be able to reveal everything at once anyways, we'll just have to wait on how things progress."
That was something, I could kind of get behind.
"Fine. But I need answers at some point or I'm afraid, we won't work out as friends!"
This didn't really make him all too happy but he forced himself to nod nonetheless.
"Okay.", I leaned back against the wall. "Then go on to your sister, you can send Stefan back to my apartment. I'll head there too. But we'll chat, got it?"
"Aye aye, Sir!", he grinned and headed off.
Chuckling, I left the alley as well. How had I gotten myself into all of this?

As soon as I opened the door to my apartment, Bonnie and Elena sprinted towards me, serious expressions on their faces. They told me to sit down on the couch and shut the door behind me.
"What's going on?", I asked, a bit startled by their sudden overtaking. The girls sat down in front of me and exchanged looks, before finally speaking.
"We need you to spy on Klaus."
What?
"Let us explain: you know Elena had a breakdown before and she started recalling all the bad events that went down lately.", Bonnie said after seeing my confused expression.
"Yes? And?", I questioned.
"Well, I realized that I know that Jenna died but I do not remember how exactly it happened.", Elena went on. "And because of that, we called Damon, asking about all this and already proposing our idea that it might have something to do with the Mikaelsons. He did some research and found out, they actually were in Mystic Falls during the time Jenna's accident took place."
"You called Damon?", I repeated.
"That's the part you ask about?", Bonnie shook her head in disbelief.
"What? It's crucial information!", I defended myself. "But okay, yeah, go on."
"Right.", Elena got back into her plan thing. "We thought since we don't remember anything and you are the only one here, you'd just need to spy on the Mikaelsons to find out more!"
"Plus, Klaus has totally got a thing for you and we can use that!", Bonnie smiled victoriously.
Oh my god, they were serious about all this spying stuff? Who was I? James Bond in female?
"So you want me to abuse my relations to the only people around here who actually care about me?", I asked, a little bit too straight forward. It wasn't that I didn't understand their point of view, I did very well, and I too worried about the Jenna issue. Still, there was a part of me that wanted to believe my friends here in New Orleans weren't cold hearted killers.
"You only have to phone in sometimes  and give us updates, it's not that much.", Elena mumbled. I sighed.
"Fine. But I'll only tell if it's something crucial to the Jenna incident!", I gave in. "That's all I can offer without absolutely destroying my friendships here."
We heard a knock at the door. Stefan had returned from helping Rebekah. Surprisingly, he looked pretty exhausted.
"Hey you.", Elena smiled. She didn't mention anything about what had previously been our topic, which made me raise an eyebrow. Calling Damon but keeping stuff from Stefan? Now that didn't seem right.
"Hi.", he gave back and dropped himself onto the couch. "I really can't with this family of theirs. Care, I don't know how you do it."
I eyed him a little disapprovingly. "Do what?"
"Keeping them under control. You can be glad, they aren't on anything normally when you see them.", Stefan went through his hair. Bonnie and Elena exchanged glances.
"You're making them sound like some kind of druggies.", Bonnie pointed out. Stef just shrugged his shoulders as if that may have been his point. Drugs... I felt like those illegal things might actually have their part in the play.
"By the way, Stefan...", Elena started carefully. We all knew what she was going to say. I reckoned it was something like "you want to tell us the truth about your connection with the Mikaelsons?" but we'd never know for sure because Stefan rolled his eyes and cut her off.
"That stuff is really not something we should talk about. Not in this city, not right now.", he stated sharply and Elena obviously had no intention to dig deeper. I had never seen Stefan in this state. What was so traumatizing that he did not, under any circumstances, want to speak about?
"We should leave early tomorrow.", he then went on.
"What? But you said, you would stay until evening!", I asked, a bit sad they wouldn't stay as long as promised.
"I know. However, since this is how things are right now, I don't think staying is such a marvelous idea."
Bonnie shot me an apologizing look. "I think so too. I'm sorry, Care but after everything, it would just cause more problems and that's not what we want."
Great. So I would be left here again, without my friends and only a task to "investigate" my other friends... Just what I wanted.

Hey everyone... I have some bad news for now and I apologize in advance.
So, unfortunately there won't be any new chapters of this story for two weeks. It's not the end of the world but I imagine for some of you kind of disappointing nontheless.
However, I really don't have the time right now to continue writing new chapters for this because of way too much work as well as other original stories of mine that I am trying to finish... it's just too much to do at the moment, which is why, to reduce stress, I decided to put this story on hold. That does not mean I won't continue this at all, I have many ideas for future chapters, it just means that there won't be any new content the next weeks.
I hope you understand. Have a great time until then!
