-Lydia's POV-
It had been a week since Peter opened up to me about his family's lifestyle. To me, nothing had changed. I still saw each of them the same way as I always had, but I at least now knew and understood the reasons for certain behaviors. As they say, 'The unknown is more fearful than the known.' That was true in many aspects. I got up and got ready for school that morning and peeked into Lorie's room to tell her she needed to get ready as well.
As I was coming downstairs to head to the kitchen to get breakfast, Nicolae confronted me. "Lydia, I was wondering if I might have a word with you later this afternoon." "Sure, uh... is everything all right?" "Oh, yes, of course. Nothing to worry yourself about. We will talk later, though. Have a good day at school today." "Thank you. You have a good day as well."
(Nothing to worry about? That just makes me worry all the more.) When Peter entered the dining room he smiled at me, which pierced my emotions every time. I adored that smile of his and knew the reaction it caused in me would never get old. He walked around the table, placed his hands on my shoulders, and kissed me on the top of my head. He did that every morning now if it was just the two of us in the room.
Peter had to have known the effect he had on me, seeing how he could hear my heartbeat speed up. I could never hide from a vampire's enhanced supernatural hearing. "Good morning, Peter." "Good morning, Lydia. I heard Nicolae wants to talk with you this evening." "Yes, that's right." "I can tell that you are nervous, but let me assure you. You really have nothing to worry about. Okay?" "Do you know what it's about?" "Yes, but I will let Nic start the conversation after school." "Well, now I am really curious! You sure you won't give me a hint?" "Nope!" "Just a teensy little hint? Please?" I begged, batting my eyelashes at him. "Nice try, honey!" he replied, stubbornly refusing me. He then kissed me lightly on the nose, amused by my behavior. "Uh oh, brother! She's trying to use her powers of seduction to lure you into giving her what she wants," Drogo barged in with a sarcastic tone. Peter's expression was priceless with the look of cute embarrassment. He looked so adorable and it made me smile.
"Brother, you better be careful with this one. I think she's enjoying it a little too much... You know, little thing, I think I might like this new you," Drogo said with a smirk. Peter responded, emphasizing the name sarcastically, "Brother... I don't think she will ever fall for your antics and big ego!" Peter then winked at me. Enjoying the turn of events, I turned to Drogo, shrugging my shoulders, and tilted my head in Peter's direction for a brief second. "He's right, you know!" I said, which made Drogo shrug his shoulders and walk back out. Peter and I looked at each other and burst out in laughter. He leaned over to kiss my cheek. "I am going to go check on Lorie and see if she is ready. You sit tight and finish your breakfast. There's no rush. They say it is the most important meal of the day after all." "Peter, you know what you are?" "What is that, my sweetness?" "You are absolutely TOO sweet to me!" He smiled brightly and replied, "Never." Of course, that made me fall for him even more.
The whole day at school turned out to be pretty good. Peter and I turned our paper in to Professor Steinn. We decided to write about both Amadeus Mozart and Johann Sebastian Bach. Peter seemed confident in our work, so I really hoped for an 'A' then. We both put much effort into it. There were a lot of visits to the library, but it was worth every minute. I eagerly accepted every chance I could get to spend time with him and I sensed he felt the same.
