Monday afternoon in Myths and Legends class, the professor started a lesson on werewolves and shapeshifters. Another slideshow of different images, along with a lecture, was planned for the day. Before he had the lights dimmed, he asked the class, "Who here knows of at least one difference between these two species?" Many hands went up in the air. "Yes, Miss Osborne?" he said, acknowledging Sarah's hand first. "Werewolves transform during a full moon while a shapeshifter shifts into their wolf form at will." "Excellent answer! Anyone else have something to add to that that they would like to share? Miss Canteles?"

"Shapeshifters are born with it, though it is dormant until they become of age, usually at the age of sixteen. Werewolves have to be bitten or scratched by another werewolf in order to become one." "Yes, very good!" he said, giving me praise for my answer. As the slideshow started, the professor stated some similarities along with more differences. "Both species have fast healing ability as well, similar to vampires. We are all aware that both are part human, part wolf. In some stories, it talks about both having a weakness to silver and a plant called Aconite flower. Can anyone guess another name for this yellow flower, once it has been crushed and used against these species of wolves?" A student raised his hand to give the answer, "Wolfsbane, Sir?" "That is correct! Some of the stories state that both can be killed by silver and wolfsbane. Although, some claim that they can kill a werewolf, but only injure and weaken a shapeshifter."

I knew that shapeshifters had incredible healing and were only weakened by wolfsbane from what I have seen in recent days. Professor Jones' transformation on the mountain was proof of that healing ability. It was amazing to witness, especially since wolves are my favorite animals. The professor's eyes met mine as my mind pondered over my memories of him and his pack. I could feel my cheeks blushing, so I hoped that the dimmed lights hid the redness of my skin. Turning my attention back to his speech, he asked everyone, "Can anyone guess what would happen if silver or wolfsbane is used against a shapeshifter, if it doesn't kill them?" Another student near the front answered that it could slow their healing process dramatically, which Professor Jones stated was the correct answer.

The professor had a student turn the lights back up again. Moving over to the chalkboard after turning the projector off, he continued his lecture. "It is well known that a wolf is not the only animal a shapeshifter turns into, even if it is only one shape the individual has the ability to become the likeness of. Some more powerful can even shift between multiple animals as well. We know they can transform at will, however, strong emotions can also trigger a change. The reason for this is because animals act on pure emotion and instinct. They are more prone to being impulsive, rather than using logic and reasoning. Teen years were mentioned earlier, which are related to the emotional factor. The shifts are more difficult to control in the beginning."
