For a while, I had been practicing my offensive skills out in the woods with the guys lately. I was getting a handle on luring animal prey to us for the Bartholys to feed on without them having to track and chase them down. Drogo was reluctant at first because, I quote, 'The chase and attack is all part of being a vampire, striking fear into our prey.' Nicolae overruled him in order to help me with expanding the abilities of my gift. I wasn't fond of seeing them in action at first, hearing and seeing them suck the blood from the animals. The screeching of the poor creatures dying down as their lifeforce was being drained made me feel uncomfortable, but I came to accept it not long after we started the weekly night routine.
It was interesting how I managed to succeed each time. That scholar I read about, who stated 'A siren's silence is more deadly than her voice,' was correct. We were able to get near enough to the deer without the need of my alluring voice. Peter told me he could see my eyes glow as they had before, but with more intensity the longer the duration was of me using the magic. The animals had no idea what was calling them to walk in our direction. Soon, it became a fun game for Drogo, testing my limits with more challenging targets, like mountain lions for instance. Though, it was beginning to be fun for me as well.
The next evening of the weekend, we decided to go out to a bar. Nicolae stayed home to watch over Lorie while Drogo, Peter, and I went out Saturday night. We met up with Sarah, who was a little hesitant. Noticing why she had a certain expression on her face, I giggled and assured her that it was definitely not a double date. Drogo then replied, "She only wishes she could have all of this." He moved his hands up and down the sides of his torso like he was placing himself on display. "Hmpfh... As if!" Sarah answered in return, rolling her eyes at him. Peter and I were quite amused by the two of them.
We ordered our drinks and then started a game of pool when we walked inside. The boys were really good. (Typical!) Sarah and I didn't stand a chance against them. It was a good thing we both refused to accept a bet when Drogo suggested it. "I may be more brave now than I was when I first came to this town, but I am not stupid. Betting against you two would most definitely be in the category of stupidity," I told him. Peter set his pool stick down, wrapped his arms around me from behind, and whispered in my ear, "Wise decision, my sweetness." I elbowed him in the gut, which made him laugh. I smiled when he kissed my cheek after letting me go.
After two games with the guys, Sarah and I played a game by ourselves when Drogo and Peter stepped outside for a bit. The two of us girls were having fun, minding our own business, when a couple of unwelcome guests invaded our space. "Loan, you and your buddy can leave. Now! We are not interested in your shenanigans, nor will we ever be!" Sarah demanded, raising her voice. He wasn't paying her any mind whatsoever, though. "We've been watching you both and I just thought I wouldn't be the gentleman I am if I didn't come over and teach you how to play. Here, let me show you how to hold a stick." I understood the innuendo and felt nauseous. Sarah scoffed out loud. "We're doing just fine without you, thanks. Okay, byyyyee," I said with an obvious fake smile, saying the last word slowly, drawing it out. He just stood there, gawking at me and biting his lip.
