Straight To The Heart

Chapter 7

Arriving at work the first thing I do after leaving my office is check on Mr Halton. Entering his room I see Raquel is there checking his monitors.

"I talked to the resident doctor that was here last night's and he said he did well through the night." I say which causes her to look up and smile walking over to me we do our secret handshake and then she gives me a hug.

"Yeah he's been pretty stable, we still don't know what caused the upset to his heart but Derrick is still looking into it."  She informs me.

"I'm wondering too because he was fine when I checked in on him that morning. He didn't complain of Feeling any discomfort or anything of that nature. But when I checked on him last night, that's when I noticed his heart monitor showing weird patterns. I'll have to ask Derrick to run some blood test, I'm thinking maybe something one of his familiar members brought for him to eat could have set something in motion." I explain before walking over and checking his charts.

"Well, Derrick is Running a blood test, the results should be in, in the next hour or so. I've also explained what had transpired to his family." She says before exiting the room gesturing with a look for me to follow.

"What is it, Raquel " I question upon closing the door to Halton's room.

"I think we may be looking at someone giving him the wrong meds, we won't know for sure until the blood test comeback but I think he was given the wrong meds by nurse Hunter. I haven't seen her since last night after the incident with Halton and she was the other assigned nurse." She explains

"You do understand she would have had to by pass 2 checks that would insure she would be giving the right meds. Which means she deliberately didn't pay careful attention to what patient she was giving them to which means negligence and medical malpractice. That's a serious issue you're talking about." I say before running my hand through my hair.

"I know Jaiden, but you and I both know nurse Hunter isn't one to really pay attention. She shouldn't have been let through as a 1st year nurse she should be been assigned a smaller hospital."

Letting out a huge sigh I began walking with Raquel beside me. "Right now all we can do is wait on the blood test. For now im going to finish my rounds and then I'll check in with Derrick. You go ahead and get back to mr Halton". I say before heading to my next patient.

Getting to Jaiden's room I talk to the resident that's over Jaicob. "How is he doing Dr Clark?"

"He's doing well, his condition has improved and he should be ready to be moved to a regular room in the next 3 weeks or so. The bleeding has finally stopped in his occipital lobe as of last night and we've been able to lower his pain meds dosage." He informs me before we start to look over his vital signs and consultant notes.

Thanking him I moved or to Jaicob's nurses. " Is there anything I should know about Jaicob's condition." I ask the nursing staff, knowing they're the ones who check on him 24/7 .

"Not right now he's improving quite nicely and he seldom complains of any discomforts." Nurse Moore answers.

"Great! You you need any orders written?"

"Yes." She says before explaining to me what she needs. Signing off on it enter Jaicob's room to examine him. Picking up the chart at the end of Jaicob's bed I see he is healing very nicely.  Checking his machines and ensuring the IV medications are appropriate, I walk over and smooth his hair before replacing the chart for the nurses and heading to my next patient.

"An anticoagulant!" I shout

" Yes, according to his blood test an anticoagulant was found." Derrick says with a sullen face.
