Nickole's POV
"So do you wanna get your coffee now?" I ask as we make our way into the airport.
"Sure!" She agrees.
"Ok, there's a Starbucks after we get pass the security checks." I mention making my way to get in line, looking back she's right behind me. Getting through security we head Starbucks. Ordering a large black coffee for her and a medium latte for myself we get to our gate and sit to wait on our flight.
Sipping my latte I think about what Gia told me when I said goodbye. Why was her mother worried about her? How come Gia thinks I'm a good match for her? What's am I missing. I ask myself. Deciding since the woman who is plaguing my mind is sitting right beside me, I turn to her to see if she can quell some of these questions.
"May I ask you something?" I start off, making her look up from her phone.
"Sure" She smiles.
"At the conference you mentioned your mother's death. If it's not too much for you, how did she die?" I inquire, realizing this is one of the questions I've wanted to ask since I heard her mention her mom's death.
I notice her smile falters a bit, making me rethink asking her so direct. Opening my mouth to tell her she doesn't have to answer, I stop when she sighs.
"My mother died in a car crash. She was killed instantly according to one of the paramedics that was on the scene." She explains, though it feels like she left something out.
Reaching a hand out I place it on top of her's. "That must have been hard on you, I know you said she was a big part of why you're a Dr in the first place. The pain won't go away but it does get easier to deal with given time." I try to console her.
"Thank You." She says.
"It's nothing." I brush off.
"No thank you for not saying sorry for your loss. Even though it's the most common response I don't like it. Like why say sorry for what you didn't do." She expounds.
"Well, having experienced a loss of my own, I know how useless saying sorry is." I assured her.
Seeing as there's nothing left to say I continue to drink my latte. Looking at the time, i see we've still got about 20 until our flight. Taking out my phone I connect to the airports Wi-Fi so I can check my work email. While replying to one I hear a ding, looking at my notifications I see I've got a message on my whatsapp.
Vivien(Bestfriend).
Viv: Hey! R u still n Aussie land?
Me: Yh @ the airport.
Viv: Finally! Things have been boring without you here.
Me: Really? I haven't been bored at all.
Viv: Oh really? & who has caught your eye?Damnit she knows me to well, I smile. Even over text she knows somethings up. Deciding not to give her a whole bunch of info I stick to the basics.
Me: Just another Dr I met @ the conference.
Viv: Nickole Jocasta Kael! You better not keep me in suspense! What's she like!? What's her name!?
Me: Oh! What do u know, our flights just bn cald. Chat later love you!Exiting the app, I finish up my email and put my phone away. Looking to the left of me Jaiden is packing her tablet away. Getting up I grab hers and my empty cups and throw them away just as our flight number gets called for boarding. I grab my suitcase and make my way to the first class line, Jaiden following.
"Well if looks like we'll still be together for the next 25 hours." I grin handing the flight attendant my ticket and moving to board the plane.
Jaiden's POV
After talking with Nickole I can't help but think back to my mom and how I wish she could've been here with me. It was always one of my dreams to one day attend this particular conference with her. Not wanting to dwell on such sad thoughts I pull out my tablet to look through all the pictures I've taken since getting here. Scrolling through them haphazardly I delete a few blurry pics and save some of the pics I want for my life travels book in a folder named Australia. Looking at the time I figure they should be calling our flight soon. Catching movement in my corner eye I look up just in time to see Nickole throwing my trash away along with hers. Taking a moment to appreciate her fine features I hear them calling our flight number and look away just as she turns to walk back. Grabbing my stuff I notice Nickole is heading to the first class line, following her she turns back to me.
