Chapter 22

Colby fumbled in his pocket for his phone and dialled Sam but it went straight to voicemail. No surprise there, he was meeting with some hotshots for a brand deal and probably had his phone on silent.

"Hey, when you get this call me back, okay? I'm really freaking out right now and I-I need to talk you. I love you"

Well, that was a bust Colby thought.

Reviewing the last twenty minutes of his life. Brennen, one of his best friends (besides Sam of course) came over to his house to explain why he'd been an asshole yesterday. Then he dropped the absolute bombshell of being in love with him and left with no explanations.

So, just your average everyday type thing.

Colby wished fervently that Sam was there right now, to hold him, to tell him it would be okay. That his friendship with Brennen wasn't ruined forever and that they could still patch things up.

All things that were probably only slightly true, but still would be nice to hear because they would make him feel so much better than he did right now.

Brennen's words stung, of course, they did, because Colby felt like they knew each other and they told each other most things. But the way he'd said...that, was like he thought Colby already knew about his feelings.

Then again, how was he supposed to know?

Maybe he was a shitty friend. Maybe he spent too much time with Sam and not enough with Brennen. Had he become one of those people who only thought about their SO and disregarded everyone else?

A horn honking made him startle out of his (depressing) thoughts. It was Jake, back from Home Depot where he'd picked some things up for a new video and Colby, like a dumbass, was stood in the middle of the driveway.

Jake parked the car and hopped out to get the bags from the trunk but not before stopping to give Colby a concerned look.

"You okay, man? Why were you just standing in the driveway?"

"Uh, no reason"

Jake scoffed but didn't comment "Whatever, it's none of my business if you were waiting for Sam to come home like a lost puppy"

"What? No, that is definitely not what I was doing"

"Uh-huh, suuure" Jake said with a teasing grin.

"Fuck you" Colby muttered, as he brushed past Jake and into the house.

"Yeah, fuck you too, asshole!" Jake called after him.

"What's his problem?" Jake muttered to himself as he shut the trunk and went in, closing the door with his foot. Whatever, Colby had moods every now and again. It was probably just him being emo.

Back upstairs, Colby lay upside on his bed with his head hanging over the edge and stared blindly up at the ceiling.

Now that he really thought about it, there were so many signs. So many times Brennen "accidentally" touched him, or the disappointed look he'd get on his face when Colby told him he was hanging out with Sam instead of Brennen.

Fuck, hindsight really was 20/20 Colby thought bitterly. I am an idiot, for real. God, how did this become such a mess?

He sighed and closed his eyes for just a second that apparently turned into a longer period of time because the next thing he knew was someone gently shaking him.

"Colby, come on, you can't sleep like that"

He opened his eyes to see the blurry outline of Sam, who was crouching just by his head with a sappy look on his face.
