Though, maybe it's quite absurd,

We dissolve away without a word,

No 'goodbye' or 'take care' is heard

But maybe that's just the way we preferred.

No reason for pleasantries to be overheard,

And no, it wasn't thought to be deterred,

If you caught a word, I'm afraid you misheard,

Because silence was the only thing we preferred.

Only to me it later occured

That I'd be drinking until my words were slurred,

And well after I'd downed my second and third

I thought I'd change what we thought we preferred.

I had hours to write, and pen, and reword,

But by the time I was done, you were too far to be heard.

Now, last minute, I've decided not to send word,

Because I've remembered this is what you preferred.
