Luctus

It's the calm before the storm,

The rainclouds, they're keeping me warm,

Keeping my veins hot when it starts to pour.

This is the start

And the stars never looked colder,

I won't look back

Not even a glance over the shoulder,

So you'd better keep up,

I'm not stopping until you learn my name.

Watch me, I'm bending and breaking,

Melting in my own fire,

But at least I'm keeping warm,

And I'm staring right back

Just to watch the rest of you burn.

My hands are tented,

They're resting on my lap,

But I won't lift a finger

Or shed a tear

Until you learn to whisper my name.

This lack of empathy is harder than it looks,

So, before my smile cracks,

Follow me right on back,

I'll take you to the beginning.

The stars never looked colder.

Words were never bolder.

My veins were never warmer.

And it's starting to rain.
