The next day, Isabelle woke up to a normal morning.
'That was a weird dream' she thought as she walked into her bathroom. As she looked in the mirror, though, she saw something she remembered. Her bright red eyes. 'Not a dream' she thought again. 'But how? How could it not be a dream?'
She spotted the colored contacts they bought last night on the sink. She wore regular contacts every day, so it wasn't hard for her. She got dressed, and, like every morning, texted the group chat. But this time, it was for a different reason.
Isabelle: Is everyone alright?
Nick: I'm good, but these contacts are fucking killing me
Zack: Me too, 'cept the contacts are fine
Jack: I'm fine, a little shaken up still.
Colin: Everyone just needs to remember to act cool. We can't let anyone know what happened.
Jake: I thought it was a dream. Crazy.
Stella: What's gonna happen?
Nick: I don't know, but we just need to act normal 'til something does happen.
Isabelle: Well, I'll see you guys at school?
Isabelle got in the car without getting another response. She finally made it to school, but was immediately greeted by a face she didn't want to see.
"Isabelle Heims! Colin Wisler! In my office, NOW," Principal Mess yelled from his office door.
Isabelle and Colin glanced at each other, but didn't dare say anything to set Principal Mess off.
"What the hell did you two think you were doing yesterday? You broke the glass trophy case and then left without checking out, not to mention disturbing several classes with your incessant screaming!"
"Principal Mess, we-" Colin tried to explain.
"Shush, Wisler! I don't want to hear your excuses!"
"It wasn't going to be an excuse, Principal Mess, I was going to explain-" Colin once again tried to say but was cut off again.
"I SAID HUSH" Principal Mess yelled even louder. "And Heims, what do you have to say for yourself, since your friend Wisler seems to want to talk for you."
"I WAS NOT TALKING FOR HER!" Colin yelled right back at Principal Mess. Isabelle noticed something about Colin was different. Even though he had his contacts in, his eyes' colors turned black as night. As if on instinct, Isabelle grabbed his arm to calm him. Colin noticed her touch, and his anger ceased almost immediately.
"Principal Mess, what Colin meant to say was that he merely wanted to help the situation and not hurt it," Isabelle said calmly, which was a surprise to Principal Mess. "We didn't try to break anything, really. We were just having fun since we had a free period at the of the day. If you'd like us to pay for a new glass pane, we will, but please know that we didn't mean to cause harm to the school."
"Well," Principal Mess was at a loss for words. "Just- um- make sure it doesn't happen again. And try to be quieter in the halls please."
Isabelle smiled kindly at Principal Mess and dragged Colin out of the office. Before Colin could go to his next class, Isabelle pulled Colin to the side to talk to him.
"You need to control your anger. Your eyes almost gave you away. I could see the black."
"But I have my contacts in. My eyes shouldn't show through," Colin said, almost more questioning than statement-like.
"I know, but something happened to us that is stronger than some colored contacts. Just promise me that you won't do anything stupid for the rest of the day."
"Alright," Colin said with a sigh.
Then, all of the sudden, they heard a loud crash and then a grunt from someone that was familiar.
Nick.
