Jisoo slammed the bedroom door shut and blindly reached for the lock, making sure Y/N wouldn't be able to follow her.

Drying the tears that managed to fall from her eyes with the back of her hand, she walked to the closet and looked for a travel bag in the high shelf. Dragging the bag out, it accidentally knocked against a small box and made it fall to the ground, its contents scattering on the floor. Jisoo kneeled down and, with shaky hands, tried to quickly put everything back in place.

The box was apparently full of pictures of them over the years, always looking happily into the camera, but as time passed, everyone could notice their smiles looked almost forced. There was also a receipt with "First Date!" written on the back in bold red letters and a funny looking pair of sunglasses she bought in Thailand that Y/N hated and she often used to annoy him.

Jisoo put them back into the box but froze when her eyes caught a polaroid picture still on the ground. She was smiling brightly into the camera while Y/N had both his arms around her and was kissing her blushing cheeks. It was a picture she took on the weekend they had spent with her family on the mountains. She could still remember how the sight of Y/N and her siblings joking around brought so much warmth to her heart, how happy it made her to see the people she loved get along so well.

Jisoo held the photo close to her chest, near her heart, and covered her mouth with her hand, trying to silence the sobs that now escaped her lips. She was about to walk away from something that used to be so beautiful but was no longer salvageable. Her entire body was shaking, she could barely see because of the tears flooding her eyes and the intense pain brought by having to leave someone she loved with all her being behind made everything feel like a dream more than reality. She felt like a complete mess.

Hard knocks came from the door and the handle moved hastily as Y/N tried to open it. "Jisoo, please, open up!"

Shaking her head and taking a deep breath, Jisoo got back to her feet, put the polaroid in the back pocket of her jeans and pushed the box to the back of the shelf. She made quick work of her most important belongings, throwing them into the bag, not bothering to fold them. More knocks came from the door but she kept ignoring it.

"Baby, I'm sorry, okay? Let's not make any sudden decision, we can talk about everything." Y/N laid his forehead on the door and closed his eyes.

He knew their relationship had been on thin ice for a while but he couldn't stop being irrational and acting like an idiot, focusing only on himself and hurting Jisoo's feelings over and over. He had never really tried to change though, knowing she would stick with him no matter what, but for the first time in years, he was really afraid of losing her.

Jisoo zipped up the now full bag and looked around the room, knowing it will be her last time seeing it. All the mornings spent together being lazy in bed, all those night when they found other ways to show just how much they loved each other, they were all just a distant memory now. She looked at the small teddy bear Y/N gave her on Valentine's Day sitting in between pillows on the bed, considering whether to take it or not. In a rush decision, she grabbed it and stuffed it in the back of the closet next to the small box. Maybe one day he'll find this and think of me again.

When he heard the sound of the door unlocking, Y/N quickly stepped back and his heartbeat picked up its pace. Jisoo walked past him, not sparing him a look, bag in her hand, and rushed down the stairs. Y/N was fast on his feet and grabbed Jisoo's arm when she reached the living room, succeeding in stopping her marching.

"Where are you going?" He asked.

Jisoo breathed in deeply from her nose, avoiding his eyes. "I'm leaving."

"Yeah, I figured that much." Y/N chuckled nervously. "I mean, where and for how long are you leaving?"

"I'm leaving you, Y/N. But you already know this." Jisoo sharply freed her arm from Y/N's grip and resumed her walking to the door.

"Wait, wait, wait! Please, wait." Y/N moved to stand in between her and the front door with his arms spread out at his sides.

Jisoo huffed, looking at him with her puffy red eyes.

"Just... don't leave me. Please." Y/N whispered with a shaky voice, his eyes glossy with unshed tears. "You're the only thing keeping me sane. You can't leave."

"Will you ever stop thinking only about yourself?" Jisoo walked up to him and hit his chest with every word that left her mouth. Her eyes were full of anger as she glared at him, making a shiver run down Y/N's spine. "That's the reason I'm leaving, the reason this relationship is ruined. You're only nice when you need me because you're feeling bad, then once you're fine and dandy you go back to treating me like shit or ignoring me! Have you ever even wondered how I feel?"

Y/N widened his eyes and took a step back, taken aback by her sudden outburst. He gulped, looking at her in shock. In all those years spent together, he had never heard Jisoo curse even once. "I-I'm sorry."

Jisoo shook her head and swiftly dried a tear before it could make its way down her face, "It's too late for that."

This time, when she walked to the door Y/N made no move to stop her, knowing there was no way of making her stay. The door opened and, after a few seconds of utter silence, Jisoo called out for him. Y/N turned to her, eyes wide full of hope and the fast bumping of his heart echoing in his ears. Maybe she changed her mind. Maybe she'll stay.

"I'll come back tomorrow afternoon with Chaeyoung to take the rest of my stuff. I'd appreciate it if you'd leave for that time."

Her cold tone, bare of any emotion, felt like a ton of bricks falling on his chest, making it hard to breathe. Y/N nodded, looking down at his feet, not being able to bear the sight of her leaving his house and his life forever.

After Jisoo left, he stood in the same position for who knows how long, staring into space. Happy episodes from their past together were replaying in his mind, being repeatedly interrupted by the image of Jisoo crying and yelling at him during one of their many fights.

Y/N couldn't cry, couldn't move, he was frozen at the realization of what just happened and what he just lost. What is it they say? "You don't know what you got until it's gone"? Guess I'm not the only idiot who had to go through this to figure out just how much she actually means to me.

Y/N moved to sit on the couch, his unfocused eyes were looking outside the window, at the fading pink light of the sunset and the darkness of the night beginning to spread above it. His broken heart made his chest ache but there was nothing he could do about it now. He felt like his body was drained of energy and his brain stopped functioning, so he closed his eyes and let himself fall into the darkness hoping to wake up in his bed with Jisoo next to him.
