"Let me get this straight, you're working on an android to assist the police department," Percy asked from the spinny chair he was sitting in near the side of the workshop.
"That's correct. Cyberlife asked me to make a prototype series that would assist to help the DPD catch these deviants. He's not ready yet, won't be for a few months, but I nearly have his design done." Elijah spoke as he implanted the LED into the android.
"Uh huh, and have you come up with a name for him yet?" Percy asked as he slowly started to spin the chair, feeling his ADHD slowly starting to act up as there was nothing productive to do.
"I was thinking Ricardo," Elijah said before being startled as Percy almost violently leapt from the chair.
"Absolutely not!"
"What! Why not?" Elijah asked slightly insulted but more confused on his friends reaction.
"Don't you know, that stupid Ricardo meme is still going around. It's been like twenty years, let it go for fucks sake. Along with that stupid gnome. I will not have a series that is similar to Lucas be named Ricardo. For fucks sake, Elijah, don't you know anything that's on the internet now-a-days!"
Elijah rolled his eyes at his friend and felt fond exasperation flow through his body. "Alright, then what would you name him?" Elijah questioned as he fixed the LED into place and watched it spin yellow a few times before settling on blue.
"I don't know, what about Elijah," Percy mocked.
"No," Elijah said simply. "If you can't come up with a name I don't mind, I'm naming him Ricardo."
"Then I guess I better help the poor soul from your disastrous naming skills," Percy replied with a thoughtful look before looking at the android's face intensely. "Does he look like a Connor to you?"
Elijah stepped back from the android and tilted his head slightly. "Honestly, he looks like a Bryan to me now that you mention other names," Elijah replied.
"Nah, definitely a Connor, what do you think?"
Elijah looked thoughtful. "I suppose the RK800 can be named Connor, but I call dibs on calling the RK900 Bryan."
"Deal," Percy responded quickly and feeling proud of himself. "So, what would the RK900 do that the RK800 wouldn't?"
"It would be more sturdy and bullet-proof for one. The RK800 is mostly used as a prototype of make sure the coding is functioning as it should, and for humans to get use to the machine detectives. Honestly, you could say it's the test-run for the series." Elijah replied as he pressed his hand against the LED to activate the skin on the android.
"RK800, register your name," Elijah spoke smoothly as the android came out of running a self-diagnostic. "Connor."
"My name is Connor, I am the android sent by Cyberlife," the male voice said aloud as he gazed at the two men in front of him.
"Well, start up looks good," Percy commented from his chair and watched as the Connor android looked around.
"What is my primary mission?" Connor questioned from the podium he was on.
Elijah gazed at Connor with one of the pens he had lying around hitting his chin as the gazed into Connor's eyes. "Hmm, what do you think, Percy? What should his primary mission be?"
"Probably saving human lives, but I suppose the primary mission would make sense is to accomplish the mission given to him. I just think that saving lives would be more important than the mission, but eh, your machine Elijah. What do you think?" Percy commented as he gazed at Connor.
The android had a bit of boyish features that surprised him. The hair texture seemed smooth and curled toward the side of his head. What surprised Percy was the fact that the android seemed to have a curl out of place, and he didn't seem to mind it one bit. Percy thought it rather reflected the android nicely.
"What would Cyberlife want versus what Society would want. Perhaps we could make them both primary missions, and should it ever be in a situation where both are affected, let it make the best outcome it would think of at the time?"
"Careful there, sounds like deviancy to me," Percy commented with a smirk.
Elijah's eyes lite up. "You know what, he would be far more deviant than others would think. He has his own base personality, likes and dislikes in order to get along with the others he work with. His programming allows him to adapt, and as a result his outcomes and personality would change accordingly. I wonder, is it possible to create a deviant android? Connor is probably one the only android out there that was created with a personality, bare Markus and Lucas of course. Oh the possibilities feel endless," Elijah said with excitement.
"Sounds great and all, but to me it feels like Cyberlife would take advantage of that wouldn't they? Like, couldn't they change his personality? Make him experience something to make him deviate and then use him to locate other deviants? What stops them from doing that?" Percy asked feeling worried for the android that was built in front of his eyes.
Percy wouldn't lie in saying that he was getting fond of the android, the boyish looks he had and the seeming lack of knowing anything gave him a childish feel to him. That the part that was reserved for his little sister flared up, making him want to hide the android from the cruel messed up world.
"Voice command. Only I can access his coding. The only other thing that would even get close to Connor's programming would be Amanda, the AI that Cyberlife wants me to create for the RK800 and RK900 series as a master for them. That way, they technically don't follow a single master at the police departments, but rather Amanda who would assign the primary missions to them. In any case, if she gets out of control, I always install a backdoor program in the series to remotely deactivate Amanda and kick her out of their programming."
"Sounds like you're expecting Amanda to do something that would cause her to be kicked out," Percy replied as he stepped beside Elijah as they watched Connor take in the environment and start his learning process.
"I suppose I just may be. I believe in the worlds of Mad Eye Moody, constant vigilance!"
"God you're such a nerd," Percy replied with a roll of his eyes.
"Just because you have dyslexia, doesn't mean you can't read. It's not my fault you're an uncultured swine."
Shaking his head, Percy left soon after to allow Elijah to work on Connor's programming and install some basic protocols, remove cold and hot settings, and to start running him through VR testing for negotiations, shooting, interrogations, and so forth.
Percy said goodbye to the three female androids, Chloe, Cass, and Cleo before returning to his apartment for much needed rest.
